• Used for treatment of falciparum malaria resistant to other anti-malarial

Artemisinin Family

Properties :

• Active principal of Chinese medicinal herb Artemisia annua
• The active antimalarial constituent of this plant was isolated and named artemisinin
• The fast acting artemisinin derivatives are used for the treatment of cerebral malaria
• Also used for controlling of multi-drug resistant P. falciparum malaria

Available range :

• A water soluble ester called artesunate
• Two oil soluble preparations called artemether and arteether
