About UsWe are a technology driven company, working mainly in the field of agricultural biotechnology. Dr Abhay Shendye and Dr Medha Joshi - the partners of ABT Bioproducts - have Ph.D. in Molecular biology and Plant Tissue Culture.
The ABT technology for agriculture has been recognised as "Best Sustsinable Technology developed by SME in India" by New Ventures India in 2006. The technology has also been nominated for "Tech Award" evaluated by Santa Clara University, California (2010).
The ABT technology offers ''cost effective farming solutions'' to farmers. This is done by improving the efficiency of various biological processes such as root development, regulation of soil pH, mobilization and absorption of nutrients, photosynthesis, rhizo-deposition etc. Once the efficiency of plant is improved, higher yields are obtined with less fertilizer inputs. Thus farmer saves on input cost and obtains higher production.
The examples of success stories are from different corners of India and a variety of crops such as wheat, rice, maize, sugarcane, sunflowers, soy bean, cauliflower, tomato, capsicum, lettuce, gerbera, carnation, rose, strawberry, mango, banana, pomegranate, grapes, mulberry, beetle vine, cardamum etc.
Using the ABT technology saline and alkaline soils can be brought under cultivation. We have extensive demonstrations and research publications on performance of ABT technology.
We have a reserach facility, with a small facility for actual plantation of vegetables. The facility is mainly for microbiology, and biochemistry research, extraction studies, and shelf life studies on fresh fruits and vegetables. The main focus of our research is agriculture inputs, soil fertility, post-harvest preservative, processing of agricultural perishables to make essential oils, fragrances, bio-active compounds etc. All these activities are essential for sustainance of agriculture.
We are promoting integration of high value agriculture e.g. aquarium fish farming, with small farm holding. This will add sustainability to the farming. At present three demonstrations are being conducted. We are developing our own support system for farmers. Microfinance help will be required for bring in more farmers into this activity at a later stage.
Our manufacturing facility has required set up for microbial fermentation, formulation development - mixing and blending, and liquid packaging.
We have a range of 7 products, and manufacturing capacity of about 7 Mt per month.
The products have been exported to UAE and Oman, and currently being tested in South Africa, Latin America, and Spain.
At present we are developing audio-visual tools for ''farmer education''. The ''phase I'' tools will introduce the basic principles of agriculture to farmers. In the second phase, the farmers will select specific input or farming operation and understand its effect on crop performance under various conditions through simulations. The first phase of the development of audio-visual material is expected to be complete by December 2010. |
