Prestigious Supplies
Supply of a 150 kv dc / 1a power supply to m/s. Central power research institute, bangalore in 1990, for a doe funded project for testing of hv dc insulators under polluted conditions. The power supply was a 12 pulse unit with a very fast dynamic response & high short circuit withstand levels. A high voltage manually operated switch for dual polarity output was also supplied. This order was received against a global tender.
Supply of various rated supplies such as 80 kv dc / 3. 3a, 30 kv dc / 3. 3a, 30 kv dc / 1a, 80 kv dc / 2. 5a, etc, to m/s barc for an electron beam application. This was a 12 pulse system with auxiliary supplies insulated at 80 kv dc level. The ripple & regulation were better than 1%.

The communication system communicates with individual 'Precicon-II' controllers through the RS 485 of the 'Precicon-II'. Thiscentralised system can communicate with 16 controllers. The software of the system is user friendly & operates under the Windows environment.
The following facilities are provided.
Display of parameter values as well as operating status of 'the individual 'Precicon-II' controllers :
Data such as mA (mean), kV(peak), kV(trough), kV(mean), primary current, spark rate, charge ratio, time totaliser, status information, etc.
Remote programming / editing of parameter values of the individual 'Precicon-II' controller. These are user friendly with prompts as well as password protected.
Trend displays of 'kV' & 'mA' values of the individual T/R sets (programmable time ranging from 1 hour to 8 days) helps in understanding precipitator field conditions.
Alarm history status can be viewed for the individual controllers aiding diagnostics.
'VI' curve generation & graphical display of the individual T/R set helps in understanding the individual precipitator field characteristics.

Integrated Energy Management System (IEMS).
Integrated Energy Management System (IEMS)
The precipitator is designed for the worst case operating conditions. When the precipitator is not operating at these worst conditions, it is possible to modulate the operating point of the electrical supply, so as to reduce the Corona power delivered to the electrostatic precipitator, while maintaining a desired dust emission level (opacity setpoint). This enables 'power saving', when 'fullpower' is not required.
The 'IEMS' system reduces the power input to the individual fields of the precipitator in such a way that the power saving is maximised without exceeding an upper limit of the dust emission.
The 'IEMS' system uses the signal from the opacity monitor as a measure of the dust emission. This opacity signal (2-20mA/ 4-20mA/0-20mA software selectabl) is fed to the 'host PC'. This signal is indicated in terms of 0-100%.
Depending on the opacity error & the selected algorithm, the system modulates the 'IEMS IDC Limit' in the T/R set to achieve the desired emission limit.
The control action is communicated to the individual 'Precicon-II' units through the RS-485 link. The active 'Precicon-II' units read this signal & take necessary action.
The opacity setpoint can either be of 'fixed opacity' type or of 'minimal opacity' type (based on the selected algorithm). In the 'fixed opacity' type, the desired setpoint is entered; the power is reduced/increased until the actual opacity equals the setpoint or minimum / maximum power level is reached.
In the 'minimal opacity' type, the 'IEMS' system finds out the minimum opacity level-this 'minimal' value automatically becomes the setpoint; the power is then reduced until the actual opacity goes slightly below this setpoint. Thus the ESP is run at the minimal opacity with reduced power consumption.
If the actual opacity is below the setpoint, the system starts reducing the power level to the T/R sets. This reduction is based on a programmed algorithm, where priority -levels are assigned for the various precipitator fields. This priority level determines the order in which power increases or decreases in the various precipitator sections. This reduction will continue until all priority levels are completed or actual opacity equals setpoint.If actual opacity is above the setpoint, the power is increased in a similar manner.A hysteresis band is provided in the 'opacity setpoint' to prevent unwanted oscillations due to small process fluctuations and / or electrical noise pickup in the input opacity signal.
