Compressors with different size cylinders may be two stage machines. First or two cylinders of same bore size is considered to be one stage and the other last one is considered to be second stage of two stage machines. A two-stage model (1) compresses air to an intermediate pressure in the first stage, (2) removes heat of compression through an inter-cooler and (3) compresses air to a final pressure in a second compression stage. Two Stage Air Compressor are more efficient and are generally used for pressures above 11 Bar (maximum pressure to 14 Bar).

 

Basic principal is that on the suction stroke of the first-stage piston, air at atmospheric pressure enters the cylinder through the inlet filter and valve located in the airhead. On the compression stroke of the first stage piston, the air is compressed to an intermediate pressure and discharged through the valve in to a common manifold. From the manifold, the air passes through the inter-cooler tubes, where the heat of first stage compression is removed by the action of the fan passing cool air over the inter-cooler tubes. On the suction stroke of the second stage piston this cooled air enters the second stage cylinder through the inlet valve. The compression stroke of the second stage piston compresses the air to the final discharge pressure and forces it out through the valve in to the receiver or system.

 

In a two stage air compressor, the air/gas is compressed to a certain pressure, which would be much lower than ultimately desired pressure in the first stage. This air is then passed through a heat exchanger called 'inter cooler', where the hot compressed air is cooled down, and then the air is further compressed to the final discharge pressure. In compressors where there are more than 2 stages of compression there shall be more than one inter-cooler. Two stage machine are equipped with highly efficient inter cooler tubes that provide maximum heat disperse between stages of compression. If cooling of the discharged air is required, a water-cooled or air-cooled after cooler should be installed between the compressor discharge and the receiver or system.

Multistage compressors are used in place of single stage compressors, because if the compression is done in one stage then the heat generated may be excessive and also material of construction would have to be of very high grade and possibly too expensive. Also power consumption of a single stage compressor would be higher.

 

The compressor cylinders of these compressors are lubricated with oil and hence the compressed air discharged from the compressor shall always contain traces of oil. This oil is harmful in many ways especially in food processing industry and pharmaceutical industry.

 

There are two ways to overcome this problem. The first method is to filter the discharged air to remove the oil and the second method is to use special compressor with dry cylinders and teflon/graphite piston rings. In these compressors, there is no lubrication of the cylinders and hence no chance of oil carry over.

 

The compressor cylinders of these compressors are lubricated with oil and hence the compressed air discharged from the compressor shall always contain traces of oil. This oil is harmful in many ways especially in food processing industry and pharmaceutical industry.

 

There are no economical substitutes for these compressors in the small range i.e., Up to 50 CFM. These compressors are available for airflows up to 20000 CFM and pressure as high as 60000 PSIG (approx. 4250 kgcm2G) This is the most versatile type of compressor & can be used for nearly all applications of modern industry.

 

The compression of air/gas and the continuous sliding action of the piston within the cylinder causes heating of the cylinders. To reduce this heat, which could damage the piston as well as liners, water is circulated in a jacket around the cylinders, which can ensure proper cooling of the cylinders.

 

Various types of compressors offered by us are single or two stages, single acting, air-cooled, compact, self-contained, automatically regulated receiver or base plate mounted, electric motor or gasoline engine driven.
