Condenser has a bundle of round tubes packed together inside a cylindrical shell with tube axis kept parallel to that of the shell . One fluid flows inside the tubes, while the other one on the outside of the tubes. The shell & tube heat exchanger are commonly made use of for shifting the heat between liquids, either with or without a shift in the phase. The main components of the exchanger are the tubes, shell, front & rear end heads & tube sheets. Generally batteries are also provided on the shell side to prevent stagnation of the shell side fluid & promote better heat transfer.
