Align="justify">the dynamic, export oriented apparel manufacturing industry in india had humble origins. Starting from a cottage industry structure in the 1970?s with entrepreneurs running units from homes and garages, the industry has grown to a multi-billion dollar industry with state of the art manufacturing units servicing the best international apparel brands. Realizing the need for collective representation, aema was set up in 1981 by far sighted leaders of our industry with the then specific focus on policy advocacy to the central government to encourage policy formulation conducive to smooth growth of the export oriented apparel manufacturing sector. Aema has since functioned as an important think tank for the government and for the apparel export promotion council in advocating policy and providing an industry platform where ideas can be discussed in an atmosphere of mutual trust. In addition, aema has been the pioneer in holding apparel exhibitions both for domestic and international buyers. Aema played a key role in starting of the national institute of fashion technology which has successfully provided trained professionals for our industry. Currently, aema is working with aepc on the apparel training and design centers to provide trained manpower at worker, technicians and supervisory levels across the country.
