A Propos - Glow Plugs |
| As diesel engines are a type of ignition engines, the air
that is heated and compressed at the time of compression stroke ignites the
injected fuel automatically. But during low outdoor temperature conditions the
engine gets cooled, thereby the fuel is not ignited properly or at all. In
these cases, the glow plugs are used for starting and to serve that purpose it
is heated up to 8500 C. The operation of pre-glowing continues
during the entire starting operation. In latest models the glowing lasts for
several minutes. The after glowing helps in curbing down the pollution amount
of the exhaust and also facilitates efficient running of the engine right after
its starting at low speeds as well.
On the basis of construction, glow plugs can be differentiated as coil type and sheathed types, wherein heating coil is exposed or protected through heat resistant pipes, respectively. Although coil type is the most commonly used plug for year, the pipe type is gaining popularity among other designs of glow pipes. |
