Advantages of 5 wire resistive touch screen over 4/6/8 wire resistive touch screen.
The 5 wire resistive touch screen provides outstanding endurance and reliability compared to the older 4-wire, 6-wire and 8-wire resistive touch screens.
In terms of touch endurance, the 5 wire touch screen is guaranteed for 35 million touches, resulting in the highest reliability.
Different from the common resistive film method, electrodes on the glass enhance the touch-responding reliability.
Accuracy is maintained even if the film surface is damaged. With the endurance for repeated touches on the same spot exceeding 35 million times, it can be used for applications where a resistive touch screen could not be adopted previously. Response is also faster and more accurate.
Generally a resistive touch screen is formed through a drying process. But the 5 wire resistive touch screen is produced by fusing electrodes of more than 4H directly on the glass surface to provide resistance to humidity, cold and heat . This is a very reliable production method.
While a common 4-wire/6-wire/8-wire resistive touch screen requires re-calibration due to the stress on the film side, a 5 wire film does not use coordinates on the film side and hence forms and maintains stable coordinates, so that calibration is required only while setting up the system and thus a very effective maintenance-free environment is provided.

It is designed to be mounted to the rear surface of a rigid transparent substrate (such as glass or plastic), and operated by touching the front surface of that substrate.
It is an optically transparent touch sensor intended for use in front of an LCD (when mounted to a suitable substrate).
It is a touch sensor incorporating an integrated rear projection surface intended for use with a projector (No LCD required).
Application:
Primarily intended for use in large format interactive digital signage and information systems found in applications such as retail, advertising and exhibitions.
Operation: The associated electronic controller effectively divides the sensor into pixel-sized sensing cells, using an array of microfine metal track electrodes, which are not ITO (Indium Tin Oxide) based, and are virtually invisible when in front of a powered display or rear projection film. These tracks are connected to the electronic controller board, and an oscillation frequency is established for each track. Using the theory of capacitance field effect, a touch on the overlay substrate to which the sensor is mounted causes a change in the oscillating frequency of the tracks around that particular point; the position of which is then determined by the driver software. Unlike conventional capacitive systems where the operator touches the actual conducting surface of the sensor, the active component of the flexible film touch sensor is embedded within the sensor and protected by the mounting substrate. The driver software allows the touch screen to interface with the host computer’s operating system by emulating the behavior of a computer mouse, and translates touches into mouse movements and clicks. The flexible film touch sensor are available with various surface preparations to facilitate bonding to the supporting substrate or window. Guidelines on the application these to a supporting substrate are available upon request.
The Infrared (IR) touch panel is one complete unit package integrated with the infrared sensing panel and the controller. By employing a steel frame and tempered glass, the IR touch panel is low-maintenance and able to withstand harsh environments or rugged applications. The IR touch panel is calibration-free and driver-free when it goes with USB Human Interface Device (HID) built-in driver in Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP tablet PC operating systems. In addition, it supports multi-touch gestures such as two-finger Zoom/Rotate/Slide and touch can be easily activated by gloved hand or virtually any finger-sized object.
Benefits:
No calibration require.
Multi-touch Gesture supported.
Wide panel size selection (15"-65").
Excellent optical readability.
Ease of use, zero touch pressure required
Ease of installation.
Vandal resistant bezel.
Works under Sunlight.
Long operating life.
Power supplied from USB directly, no external power needed.
Resistant to moisture and other surface contaminants.
Traditional Touchscreen Sensing Technologies, Such as capacitive, resistive and surface acoustic wave are surface-active and therefore, more susceptible to surface variance effects during the screen's lifetime. Capacitive sensor arrays are often subject to drift, which means that regular recalibration is required and consequently, maintenance is more expensive. Resistive touch technology is more prone to damage caused by sharp pointing devices such as a pen or the corner of a credit card. PCT eliminates all of these problems by providing a robust, reliable and calibration-free, non-surface active glass fronted touch solution.
