Our Indian swordsmiths were not just craftsmen but artists; their art consists of the glorification of a cherished image of our culture and traditions. Today the finest collection of Indian weapons is the Wallace Collection and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and Hermitage Museum in Leningrad.
These weapons are ornamented with Damascene or Koftgari work, in Pure Gold & Silver, the art of Damascene & Koftgari is alive with some traditional swordsmith families and still practiced in Udaipur (Rajasthan) where some of the beautiful weapons are still being made and available to collectors of its kind.
