in 2000 the hydro business units of the companies sulzer hydro, va tech voest mce and va tech elin were merged to create va tech hydro, which was purchased by the international andritz group in 2006.
with the acquisition of va tech hydro by andritz in June 2006, the hydro power business area of andritz has become one of the world's largest suppliers of hydro power equipment with a global presence. As of 1 January 2009 the company has been renamed into andritz hydro gmbh.

Harald Heber joined the Management of the the Hydro Power Business Area in November 2007 after having successfully managed the ANDRITZ Feed and Biofuel Business Area since joining ANDRITZ in 2004.
Michael Komboeck joined ELIN, Weiz/Austria, in June 1978, after having received an engineering degree from the technical high school in Graz, Austria.
Wolfgang Semper joined Voest-Alpine AG in 1982 after graduation from the Technical University of Vienna in Mechanical Engineering and finished a post graduate MBA at the University of Toronto in 1996.
Manfred Woergoetter joined Andritz AG in 1980, after graduation from the Technical University Graz (Mechanical Engineering Economics).

14.02.2011 ANDRITZ to supply major equipment for Belo Monte hydropower plant
International technology Group ANDRITZ has received an order from Norte Energia, Brazil, to supply – as part of a consortium composed of Alstom (consortium leader), ANDRITZ, and Voith – three Francis turbines and generators, as well as 14 excitation systems for the main power house, as well as six bulb turbines and six generators, all auxiliary equipment and other hydro-mechanical equipment for the Pimental power house of the Belo Monte project. The order value for ANDRITZ is approximately 330 MEUR.
03.02.2011 ANDRITZ HYDRO receives international orders to equip four hydropower plants
International technology Group ANDRITZ received orders to supply the electromechanical equipment for the new hydropower plants Hissmofors, Sweden, and Pare, India, as well as for the refurbishment of the existing hydropower plants Hills Creek, USA, and Rio Macho, Costa Rica. Aggregate order value for all four contracts is approximately 80 MEUR.
25.01.2011 ANDRITZ HYDRO to supply electromechanical equipment for the Ribeiradio and Ermida hydropower plants, Portugal
International technology group ANDRITZ has received a contract from Electricidade de Portugal (EDP) to supply the complete electromechanical equipment for Ribeiradio and Ermida hydropower stations. These new power plants will be built on the Rio Vouga river approximately 100 km south east of the city of Porto. Commissioning is planned for early 2014.
