Hamta Pass, Chandra Tal and Baralacha La
A challenging ten day high altitude trek passing through three spectacular valleys: the Kullu Valley, the Spiti Valley and the Lahaul Valley.
Day 1: Hamta to Marasu
We start at the Hamta village, a short drive from Manali. The initial climb gives impressive views down the Kullu Valley. We follow the Hamta river valley to the Marasu campsite (2200 metres) for the night.

Day 2: Marasu to Bhalu Gera
Continuing along the valley crossing many glacial streams with views of Jobri peaks. After passing through a narrow gorge we arrive at Bhalu Gera (near Chikka), an open meadow below the Hamta Pass where we camp (3530 meters).

Day 3: Bhalu Gera over the Hamta Pass to Shea Ghoru
We climb through the snow to the Hamta pass at 4275 metres where it is possible to see the summits of Deo Tibba (6001 metres), Indrasan (6221 metres) and Inder Kila (an un-climbed peak at 4940 metres), all peaks of the Greater Himalayas - Pirpanjal Range. We descend to camp at Shea Ghoru (3600 metres), trekking through alpine meadows with beautiful flowers.

Day 4: Shea Ghoru to Chhatru
An easier day, we follow a stream down the valley until reaching the mighty river Chandra. We cross the Manali-Spiti road where a jeep will be waiting with fresh food and camp at Chhatru (3360 metres) in the Chandra Valley.
4 hours, 4 kilometres trekking.
Day 5: Chhatru to Chandra Tal
We drive for two hours along the river to the great glacial valley of Batal getting marvelous views of the Barashigri glacier, White Sail Peak (6446 metres), Lalan Peak and the CB group peaks along the way. From the Kunzum La (pass at 4551 meters) we start trekking again to the Chandra Tal (lake at 4270 meters) where we camp.
2 hours driving. 2 hours, 7 kilometres trekking.
Day 6: Rest at Chandra Tal
We rest for the day at one of the most picturesque lakes in the Indian Himalayas. Opportunity to trek for the day towards one of the magnificent peaks or glaciers.
Day 7: Chandra Tal to Tokpo Yongma
From the lake we follow the valley up stream where we have the challenge of a river crossing. Camping at Tokpo Yongma (4320 meters), with views of the Kiyar peaks.
8 hours, 14 kilometres trekking.
Day 8: Tokpo Yongma to Tokpo Gongma
Continuing up stream we cross the border in to Ladakh and camp at Tokpo Gongma (4640 meters).
7 hours, 8 kilometres trekking.
Day 9: Tokpo Gongma to Baralacha La
The final day of our trek starts with another river crossing. We then climb to our highest point yet, the Baralacha La (pass at 5100 meters) where we join the Manali-Leh road which is the highest road in the world. Again a jeep is waiting to meet us for the drive to the campsite at Sarchu (4200 metres) or Zing Zing Bar (4150 metres).

Day 10
Travel by jeep on to Leh or return to Manali.
