APPLIED ELECTROPTICS & INSTRUMENTS came into existence in October 1981. The basic idea in starting this organisation was to manufacture sophisticated scientific and electronic instruments, to serve the ever-developing Indian industries as also to offer import substitution. The people instrumental in setting up this organisation have had varied and protracted experience in the scientific instrumentation, microprocessor and computer fields.
Over the past 28 years the company has designed and developed several digital and microprocessor based instruments for measurement and control. It has established itself as the only reliable manufacturer, in India, of retrofit and modernization electronics for the Optical Emission Spectrometer (OES). The company offers a total modernization and upgradation scheme for any make of OES.
Apart from this, the company has designed and developed several processor based equipment such as dissolved oxygen analyser for molten steel and flue gas, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) etc. The company has designed the complete control system inclusive of software for multicar elevators and is a consultant to one of the oldest Elevator Company in India.
The company has, starting from scratch, come a long way in the past 28 years and established itself as one of the most reliable SSI units in the field of its operations.
Achievements
A 50 Hz Spark Source for Phillips MBLE Spectrometer has also been built here. This is working till date without any breakdown. Replaced grating and realigned all optics on the same Spectrometer. As yet we are the only Indian company to replace Gratings and overhaul the optical system.
Completed development of Retrofit Console to replace complete electronics of the Spectrometer, which is operated through an 8-bit computer and spectrometer software.
A menu driven software for the computerization of Spectrometer was completed when ARL Jarrell-Ash, Phillips were supplying PDP-8 or PDP-11, without a video or menu driven software.
During this period, controllers for the various spectrometers such as ARL – QV28, 2900B, 34000; Jarrell Ash – 800,1100,7000; Phillips – PV8020, PV8350 were developed.
Development of microprocessor based system for machine instrument and plant control. The control program is written on a computer with the basic software provided with each System. This is then compiled and transferred to the System through an RS 232 port. It is provided with a printer port for hard copy printing.
SpectroCom software for an IBM compatible PC-XT was also developed here. It runs in the MS-DOS environment. The SpectroCom is the only indigenous written software.
Completed development of windows based SpectroCom software for spectrometers.
Completed development of Optical Emission Spectrometer for metal analysis.
100 Hz computer controlled spark source. With this it is possible to select the parameters for high-energy pre-burn and low-energy burn in a Spectrometer.
Completed development of an eight-bit computer based system around Intel’s 8085 processor with the facility for conversion to a multiprocessor system. It had 64K RAM, 12K ROM, with two 5 ½ “floppy drives, keyboard and monitor. This computer was supplied to I.I.T., Powai and Rastriya Chemicals & Fertilizers, Trombay.
Processor based instrument for monitoring oxygen in flue gas. Sensors manufactured by an Indian company with an Australian collaboration. Several of these have been installed at various locations in India.
Group Control system has been designed by the company for computerized control of 16 Carbonizing furnaces/Endo Gas Generator for programmed temperature and carbonizing cycle control through two PC-XTs. These two computers were programmed to communicate with each other as also with 16 remote display stations each installed in the proximity of a furnace. This is a fault-tolerant system such that if one computer fails then the other will automatically take over the total control of the system.
Completed development of Microprocessor System based electronics for Neutron Activated Bauxite Analyzer.
Development of SCADA system for Distributed Carbon Potential Controllers.
Completed hardware design and software for a multi-car elevator system for a G+15-storied building for one of the oldest elevator manufacturing company in India. The system takes care of the peak and slacked period demands on the elevators.
