Applications:

  • Sodium methylparaben widely used as preservatives that inhibit the growth of yeast, fungi, and bacteria.
  • Sodium methylparaben is not pH sensitive.
  • Sodium methylparaben is used in a large range of acidic products like alcoholic beverages (wines, spirits, pre-mixed spirits), soft drinks, cordials, sports drinks, salad dressings, condiments, fish (smoked, dried, fermented), fruit juice concentrates, ciders, vinegar, and sauces.

The chemical name for Propyl Paraben Sodium I.P. is Sodium Propyl 4-Hydroxybenzoate. The molecular formula is C10H11NaO3 with the molecular weight of 202.18 and CAS Number 35285-69-9. The shelf life of the chemical is 3 years. It is recommended to store the product in tightly closed containers. It is widely used as an Antimicrobial Preservative.

Bronopol B.P is a highly active antimicrobial chemical compound whose chemical formula is 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol. Bronopol was invented by The Boots Company PLC, Nottingham, England in the early 1960s and first applications were as a preservative for pharmaceuticals. Used in industrial circulating water, biocide, germicide, paper pulp, paint plastic, timber-cooling circulating water and to prevent cosmetic products from moldy and corrosion.

This regulation establishes exemptions from the requirement of a tolerance for residues of 2-bromo-2-nitro-1,3-propanediol, which is also known as bronopol (Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) Registry Number (Reg. No.) 52-51-7; 1,3-propanediol, 2-bromo-2-nitro- (9CI),  when used as an inert ingredient in-can preservative at 0.04% or less by weight of the total pesticide formulation when applied to growing crops or to raw agricultural commodities after harvest under 40 CFR 180.910, and when applied to animals under 40 CFR 180.930. Corporation submitted a petition to EPA under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA), as amended by the Food Quality Protection Act of 1996 (FQPA), requesting the exemptions from the requirement of a tolerance. This regulation eliminates the need to establish a maximum permissible level for residues of 2-bromo-2-nitro-1,3-propanediol.
