This is used to prevent or treat low blood calcium levels in people who do not get enough calcium from their diets. It may be used to treat conditions caused by low calcium levels such as bone loss (osteoporosis), weak bones (osteomalacia/rickets), decreased activity of the parathyroid gland (hypoparathyroidism), and a certain muscle disease (latent tetany). It may also be used in certain patients to make sure they are getting enough calcium (e.g., women who are pregnant, nursing, or postmenopausal, people taking certain medications such as phenytoin, phenobarbital, or prednisone). Calcium plays a very important role in the body. It is necessary for normal functioning of nerves, cells, muscle, and bone. If there is not enough calcium in the blood, then the body will take calcium from bones, thereby weakening bones. Having the right amount of calcium is important for building and keeping strong bones.Certificate of analysis: | Description | White Powder | | Subs. | USES :- Drilling fluids About 80% of the world's barium sulfate production, mostly purified mineral, is consumed as a component of oil well drilling fluid. It increases the density of the fluid. Pigment The majority of barium sulfate is used as a component of white pigment for paints. In oil paint, barium sulfate is almost transparent, and is used as a filler or to modify consistency. The combination of barium sulfate and zinc sulfide (ZnS) is the inorganic pigment called lithopone. In photography it is used as a coating for certain photographic papers. Paper brightener A thin layer of barium sulfate is coated as on the surface of most photographic paper to increase the reflectiveness of the image. The light-sensitive silver halide emulsion is then coated over the barium sulphate layer. The coating limits the penetration of the emulsion into the fibers of the paper and makes the emulsion more even, resulting in more uniform blacks. More recently, barium sulphate has been used to brighten papers intended for ink-jet printing. Plastics filler In polypropylene and polystyrene plastics, it is used as a filler in proportions up to 70%. It has an effect of increasing acid and alkali resistance and opacity. Radiocontrast agent Barium sulfate in suspension is frequently used clinically as a radiocontrast agent for X-ray imaging and other diagnostic procedures. It is most often used in imaging of the GI tract during what is colloquially known as a 'barium meal'. It is administered orally, or by enema, as a suspension of fine particles in a thick milk like solution (often with sweetening and flavoring agents added). Although barium is a heavy metal, and its water-soluble compounds are often highly toxic, the low solubility of barium sulfate protects the patient from absorbing harmful amounts of the metal. Barium sulfate is also readily removed from the body, unlike Thorotrast, which it replaced. Due to the relatively high atomic number (Z = 56) of barium, its compounds absorb X-rays more strongly than compounds derived from lighter nuclei. Catalyst support Barium sulfate is a low surface area material used as a support for selectively hydrogenating functional groups sensitive to overreduction. With a low surface area, the contact time of the substrate with the catalyst is shorter. A supported palladium catalyst on barium sulfate, and doped (poisoned) with quinoline hydrogenates alkynes into cis-alkenes. The quinoline and the special support prevent overreduction to the alkane. Pyrotechnics As barium compounds emit a green light when burned, barium salts are often used in green pyrotechnic formulas, but the nitrate and chlorate salts are more common. Barium sulfate is commonly used as a component of "strobe" pyrotechnic compositions. Filter Aid Powder (Astracell) |
| Used for filtration of edible oils, sugar syrup, glucose syrup, vegetable oils, petroleum Oils, Waxes, Chemical Liquids, Fruit Juices etc. for high speed filtration and clarity, it permeates continuous flow of filtered liquids trapping all suspended particles and increases the life of filter elements or cloth or any other media and improves the clarity of the liquids and reduces the down time in the process of filtration for cleaning or replacing the media. Initially a pre coat of the filter aid powder is made on the media and 2 to 3% admix to the liquids to be filtered for excellent results before process of filtration is commenced for continuous non clog filtration. Methods Of Use: Application of precoat on the Filter Cloth with our Astracell Filter Aid Powder. The filter aid has to be applied on each side of the filter cloth, this will avoid clogging of the filter cloth and permeates continuous flow, free from suspended particles. We also further suggest to add 2 to 3% of the Filter Aid Powder to the total solution in the tank and stirred well so that continuous flow rate is maintained for longer period avoiding regular cleaning to remove the sludge by the use of Filter Aid Powder thereby improving the life of the cloth, reduces down time and also obtaining more quantity of the filtrate and clarity.
