A flange is a protruding rim, edge, rib, or collar, as on a wheel or a pipe shaft, used to strengthen an object, hold it in place, or attach it to another object. In various industries, such as dairy, pharmaceuticals, food processing, fertilizers and chemicals, fluids have to be transported in pipes. As pipes are of limited length, they have to be joined to other pipes at the flanges. The same applies to plumbing applications as well.
