Terrazzo is a composite material poured in place or precast, which is used for floor and wall treatments. It consists of marble, quartz, granite, glass or other suitable chips, sprinkled or unsprinkled, and poured with a binder that is cementitious, chemical or a combination of both. Terrazzo is cured, ground and polished to a smooth surface or otherwise finished to produce a uniformly textured surface. Bharat’s terrazzo floors are made from top quality materials such as Italian marble, the finest white marble chips, scintilating glass or mirrors. White or cream terrazzo provides an elegant backdrop for classic or contemporary furnishings. Coloured glass creates an elegant bejewelled floor. At Bharat Floorings we have always been committed to social responsibility, and are proud to be the first company in India to introduce "green tiles". These exclusive tiles come with a high recycled content and are locally produced. The GREEN TERRA product range conforms to LEED ratings and helps ensure that the building is not only aesthetically appealing, but also environmentally friendly. Wasabi Restaurant at Taj Mahal Palace & Towers Mumbai was one of the first users of Bharat’s green tiles, made with recycled glass. Advantages of Terrazzo The obvious advantage to terrazzo (besides it’s beauty) is the fact it will last for centuries. However, there are a number of other good reason to choose terrazzo floors. Terrazzo is ‘green’ – terrazzo is the original ‘green’ flooring. Since it’s made from all natural materials, there are no volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) in terrazzo and because it’s usually made from stone chips and scraps it also has a high percentage of recycled material. Terrazzo is versatile – You can install terrazzo inside or outside. It was originally used in outdoor terraces and it can still be used to provide a beautiful patio or pool deck. Inside, the fact that it’s waterproof makes it a good choice for installation in a bathroom or kitchen and it’s ability to withstand heavy foot traffic makes it ideal for entrances.
View MoreEnvironmental impact, global warming and climate change are now issues of urgent international concern. The construction industry has a major effect on the environment, and the buildings in which we live and work are responsible for high levels of resource consumption and CO2 emissions. Eco friendly and environmentally friendly building materials are becoming the norm for all new buildings. Fortunately there is now, in India, a trend of encouraging "green building"; where consumers, architects and builders aim at conserving the environment by creating structures that are healthy, resource efficient, and lead to enhanced productivity. The LEED Green Building Rating System is a certification demonstrating that a building is truly "green"; and Indian builders and architects are becoming sensitive to the necessity for acquiring this certification. In order to receive certification, a building project earns points that are based on satisfying certain criteria. With environmentally friendly flooring options such as Ecostone, architects and interior designers can not only save the environment, but also satisfy the commercial needs of their demanding clients.
