IVR is a software application which can interact with the telephone
interface board to receive incoming calls. It prompts the caller to select
an item from the menu and, based on the selection made, responds back with
pre-recorded information or live information from the database using voice.
Additionally an IVR can dial outbound calls automatically, and if it detects
human pickup (not busy or no answer calls), play a pre-recorded voice
message. Typical examples include: appointment reminder, payment follow up,
promotional calls, etc.
