SEZ (Special Economic Zone) A Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is defined as a geographical region which has more liberal economic laws than a country's typical economic laws. These kinds of zones are more specific zone types, including Free Trade Zones (FTZ), Export Processing Zones (EPZ), Free Zones (FZ), Industrial Estates (IE), Free Ports, Urban Enterprise Zones and others.
The Indian Economists were the first one to realize the importance of SEZ which is why they used it to overcome the shortcomings which experienced on account of the multiplicity of controls and clearances; absence of world-class infrastructure, and an unstable fiscal regime. Indian Government aimed at making SEZs an engine for economic growth supported by quality infrastructure complemented by an attractive fiscal package, both at the Center and the State level, with the minimum possible regulations.
