Born 1933. Education and experience: Graduated from the Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata, 1953. Won many prestigious awards, including Lalit Kala Akademi National Award, 1968; fellowship to visit France to study art museums, 1969-1970; Rabindra Bharati University (Kolkata) Award, 1970; Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Kolkata, 1976; AIFACS Award, 1996; Abanindra Puroskar, Government of West Bengal, 2000. Founder-member, Society of contemporary Artists and Calcutta Painters. Exhibitions: Numerous solo exhibitions in India and abroad, beginning 1955. Created a stir by holding a street-side exhibition in Kolkata in 1959. Solo exhibitions in France, Switzerland, Germany, and Holland, 1968. Participations: Studio Group, Kolkata 1956, 1958; Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, 1959, 1961, 1963, 1964, 1966, 1969, 1970; Banga Sanskriti Sammelan, Mumbai and Kolkata, 1959, 1962, 1964; Society of Contemporary Artists, Kolkata, 1961; All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society exhibitions in New Delhi, 1962, 1964, 1976; Triennale, Lalit Kala akademy, New Delhi, 1977; XI Sao Paulo Biennale 1971; UP State Lalit Kala Akademi, Lucknow, 1981; Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi, 1984; Commonwealth Art Exhibition, London, 1985; Segunda Biennale de la Havana, Cuba, 1986; Biennale Dhaka, Bangladesh, 1988; AIFACS, New Delhi, 1995; Confluence: 1996; The Eye within (Kolkata) 1998.
