Calcutta Painters

Born 1933. Education and experience: Graduated from the Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata, 1953. Won many prestigious awards, including Lalit Kala Akademi National Award, 1968; fellowship to visit France to study art museums, 1969-1970; Rabindra Bharati University (Kolkata) Award, 1970; Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Kolkata, 1976; AIFACS Award, 1996; Abanindra Puroskar, Government of West Bengal, 2000. Founder-member, Society of contemporary Artists and Calcutta Painters. Exhibitions: Numerous solo exhibitions in India and abroad, beginning 1955. Created a stir by holding a street-side exhibition in Kolkata in 1959. Solo exhibitions in France, Switzerland, Germany, and Holland, 1968.
