The lightweight steel fabrication includes a 100mm wide top flange which eliminates the necessity for a plywood infill, so cutting down maintenance costs. Heavy duty pressings are fitted to the beam ends ensuring adequate protection against site abuse. These incorporate a tongue location for the drophead. Panel retaining lugs have a tapered wedge action for quick positive location of panels, ensuring tight joints and minimum grout loss. When beams are in the horizontal position they cannot be accidentally dislodged.
The Technique of Early Striking
Early striking is a technique whereby the formwork is removed 3 to 4 days after pouring a slab, but the supporting structure of scaffolding or props remain undisturbed until the concrete is strong enough to support its own weight over its full span. Concrete generally takes 28 days to attain its full constructional design strength. Most engineers will only permit the complete support to be removed after about 10 to 14 days, depending on the ambient temperature and cube strength tests.
The first calculation opposite shows that the load safety factor of the slab of 3 days, spanning the short distances between the temporary supports, is certainly greater than 10 to 14 days over its full Span, although other factors may have to be considered. The most critical stress in early striking is the punching shear at the drophead. The second calculation, based on the most severe condition of relatively light slab, shows a safely factor of 5 to-1.
With today's high costs of formwork it is important to use it as frequently as possible. Traditional formwork locked in site for 10 to 14 days with a pouring cycle in excess of this is obviously outmoded by Metriform with its facility to speed the cycle of operations. This practice has been widely accepted in Europe for more than a decade where the rising costs of material and labour have proved that the Metriform system of early striking is safe, efficient and truly cost-effective
The quick action drophead supplied complete with nuts and bolts is designed to fit on standard props or adaptors for Cuplocks scaffolding. They allow panels and beams to be struck and re-used after only 3 or 4 days, leaving the support in position for the remainder of the curing period of the concrete slab. The primary head remains in contact with the concrete while the secondary head and its supporting wedge are released by a single hammer blow. The height of the drophead is 214mm and the striking distance allows the beams and panels to drop only 115mm for the their safe removal a marked improvement in terms of speed and safety compared with other systems. The drophead has a load carrying capacity of 40kN. Special care has been taken to ensure that beams cannot be accidentally dislodged once located with the drophead primed.
Props, are an economic and popular method of support in the building industry today. Ideally suited to all kinds of building construction, form works and repair. Props elminate the costly labour and time of consumer in cutting timber to length, wedging and nailing when used in vertical as a prop.
Advantages
. 1) Completely adjustable for height. . 2) Extremely robust, easy to handle, compact to store. . 3) Quickly and simply erected. . 4) No loose parts, no tools necessary. . 5) Headplates suit modern formwork systems for slab construction. Beam type or U head props ase also avialable as per customer requiremnt.

Unique Features
• The high tensile steel pin is located through a slot in the outer section and a hole on the inner section for coarse adjustment.
• The cast collar located below the pin gives fine adjustment for lending and striking.
• A self cleaning device on the collar nut, which automatically clears the thread of concrete, and dirt where the nut is rotated thus assuring quick and easy adjustment.
• A hole boss on the collar nut which makes it easy to turn in confined spaces. By inserting a bar in the hole.
• Base plates and head plates are holed for use with slab from work .
• TPI ACME square thread ensure load bearing strength at this critical point
• Standard special shores pins are also available on request.
Tubes and fittings scaffolding are widely used for supporting man and materials, tools and tackles during construction, alteration, demolition and maintenance works because of their several advantages over conventional type of timber /bamboo scaffolding.
