Zinc Oxide For Plastics Zinc oxide, the inorganic chemical is characterized with a variety of properties such as heat resistance and mechanical strength that are imparted to acrylic composites in the plastics field. The chemical also contributes to the formation and cure of epoxide resin. It also imparts higher tensile strength and water resistance when it is added to epoxy resins cured with aliphatic polyamines. Fire-resistant, another property that, the chemical imparts to nylon fibers and moldings.
Zinc Oxide is vital ingredient in the preparation of nylon polymers providing resistance to it. Presence of Zinc Oxide imparts higher viscosity and other improvements to the formation of polyesters. The chemical with molecular formula ZnO reacts with unsaturated polyesters to form higher viscosity and a thixotropic body. ZnO also improves the dye ability of polyester fibers. It also provides stabilization to polyethylene against aging and ultraviolet radiation. Zinc Oxide improves the transparency of poly (chlorofluoroethylene) molding resin. Addition of Zinc oxide to polyolefin improves color, tensile strength and vulcanization properties.
It also improves thermal stabilization of PVC. Additional properties including antistatic, fungistatic and emulsion stability are also imparted to vinyl polymers. The chemical finds application in development for Zinc Oxide stabilized polypropylene and high-density polyethylene for manufacturing of safety helmets, insulation, pallets, stadium seating, bags, fiber and filament, agricultural and recreational equipment.
