Membrane Bio Reactors![]() Crossflow Membrane Bio Reactor - MBR The expenses for the disposal of industrial and municipal wastewater are increasing strongly due to more stringent governmental legislation ordering lower discharge limits and higher discharge taxes. Moreover, the intake of ground water is being limited to prevent a dehydration of the soil having a destructive influence on nature's flora and fauna. The call for a closed water cycle is becoming louder and more efficient wastewater treatment techniques have been developed, such as the membrane bio-reactor (MBR). System description An Membrane Bio Reactor (MBR) is a compact-built purification system combining the biological degradation step with a membrane separation step. The influent is fed to the aerated bio-reactor where the organic components are oxidisedby the activated sludge. Next, the aqueous activated sludge solution passes through a membrane filtration unit separating the water from the sludge. The latter returns to the bio-reactor, while the permeate is discharged or re-used as particle-free effluent. The combination of biological treatment with membrane filtrationoffers several significant advantages over a A smaller surplus sludge results in a higher average age of the activated sludge leading to more component-specific bacteria and not only to fast-growing bacteria. Therefore, a Membrane Bio Reactor is very suitable to treat more heavily polluted industrial waste streams. The particle-free effluent is suitable for direct reuse or can be upgraded further by means of reverse osmosis for high-grade application as process water. Sewage Treatment Plant![]() CHEMPAC sewage treatment plants represents the “State of the Art” technology in the field of waste water treatment. CHEMPAC sewage treatment plants combines the established diffused aeration principle with the reliability of fixed film system. CHEMPAC sewage treatment plants is a single tank package of outstanding performance and efficiency. CHEMPAC sewage treatment plants is available in a range of standard modular sizes. It has wide ranging application in organic waste treatment. It is ideally suited for resorts, hotels and condominiums. CHEMPAC sewage treatment plants is simple in design and highly flexible in operation. The unique arrangement of fixed media results in unbeatable size to population treatment ratio.
CHEMPAC CHEMPAC sewage treatment plants is specially developed for efficient removal of BOD, Oil, Grease and other organic from sewage. It provides excellent growth environment for bacteria. The Reactor tank is loaded with cross fluted PVC media and air diffusers are provided at the bottom for releasing air uniformly across the width of the tank. The media is custom designed to provide a series of vertical columns placed along the access of the unit. The alternate columns serve as up flow and down flow in the stationary biological film reactor providing maximum contact time. BIOLOGICAL GROWTH IN THE CHEMPAC SYSTEMS Bacteria grow rapidly in the CHEMPAC sewage treatment plants units under properly engineered conditions. They consume organic chemicals for their growth and remove them from the waste water. The bacteria convert the chemicals into biological cells, which under proper growth conditions, form slimes. The slimes adhere to available surfaces and accumulate into what we call stationary biological film or fixed film. In the CHEMPAC sewage treatment plants the rigid PVC matrix provides 42 sq. ft. of surface area per 1 cu.ft. of media for attachment of the stationary biological film. The high surface area-to-volume ratio of the CHEMPAC units allows for accumulation of substantial concentrations of bacterial in the relatively small reactor units. Further the accumulated bacteria which provide high rates of removal of organic chemicals, are fixed in the system and do not need to be recycled back to the basin Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket Systems![]() The Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket Systems also relies on upflow velocities to suspend anaerobic solids. However, upflow velocities are much lower than utilized in the AFB process since no carrier material is provided. Instead the anaerobic active mass tends to form a granular type of sludge which assists with its retention in the anaerobic reactor. Various differences between UA Sludge Blanket Systems reactors were noted on visits to various European facilities. Some reactors are constructed of concrete; others of steel. Some reactors are rectangular; others are cylindrical. Some are moderate height (6 m ); one extended 20 m high. The reactors generally had various proprietary designs for distributing influent and recirculated flows at the bottom as well as three-phase (effluent, solids, gas) separators at the top. AREA OF SLUDGE BLANKET APPLICATION The UA Sludge Blanket Systems concept which has been traditionally used for treatment of liquid effluents has been successfully modified for treatment of liquid waste with high concentration of suspended solids like Abattoir waste waters as well as solid waste like Poultry droppings, Kitchen Waste, Vegetable Waste. Wastewater Recycling![]() The Best Available Systems For Wastewater Treatment And Reuse : - SINCE THE 1980's, Membrane Bioreactors (MBR) have been successfully used to treat municipal, commercial and industrial wastewaters for discharge and reuse applications. Today, with thousands of installations operating worldwide, MBR technology is shaping the way we view wastewater treatment and water conservation in the US and around the world. Description of MBR technology An MBR is a combination of the activated sludge process, a wastewater treatment process characterized by a suspended growth of biomass, with a micro- or ultra-filtration membrane system that rejects particles. The membrane system replaces the traditional gravity sedimentation unit (clarifier) in the activated sludge process. The turbidity and suspended solids concentration of the effluent is far lower than in conventional treatment. All biomass is retained and becomes returned activated sludge. Biological growth leaves the system as waste activated sludge. The figure shows an immersed MBR that is market by several vendors with various proprietary features. Advantages of MBR 1.High effluent quality 2.Elimination of secondary clarification tank, small footprint 3.Long solid retention time, easy management 4.High biomass concentration and treatment efficiency 5.Easy to install in the existing aeration tank to become MBR 6.Easy for Operation & Maintenance 7.Greatly reduce the volume of aeration tank 8.Reduce fouling and increase water flux
