An optical fiber fusion splicer comprises of a personal computer (150) & splicing elements. The splicer is controlled by the computer for fusion splicing of minimum 1 pair of opposed optical fibers (110, 112). OTDR or optical time-domain reflectometer is an optoelectronic instrument which is used to exemplify an optical fiber. It injects a chain of optical pulses into the fiber, undergoing the test. It also extracts light from the same end of fiber. The light is scattered & reflected back from specific points on the fiber where the index of refraction changes. The strength of return pulses is measured & integrated as a function of time. It is also plotted as a function of fiber length.

The product is also used to estimate the fiber's length along with its overall attenuation, including splice & mated-connector losses. It can also assist in locating various faults such as breaks.

The Indoor Unit (IDU)

It provides the TDM and Ethernet ports for connecting to the links on both sides. The IDU is available in following two configurations:

1^st configuration
