Sooraj Automobiles Limited was incorporated in 1982 under the Companies Act, 1956 with its registered office at 6th Km. Delhi Road, Saharanpur (U.P.). Saharanpur is a well known industrial town 170 kilometres north of Delhi and is well connected to Delhi by road and rail. The Company is engaged in the manufacture of diesel three wheelers with all functions of manufacturing and marketing integrated in this plant.
The Company originally started with the production of diesel motorcycles under the brand name "SOORAJ", which was the first commercially produced diesel motorcycle in the world. In 1988, the Company also ventured into the manufacturing of three wheelers under the brand name "SITARA". Sitara has been a reasonably big commercial success due to its comparative edge over competition. In the year 2000, the Company as a matter of strategy as also due to stringent emission norms against diesel motorcycles, discontinued the production of motorcycles and has been concentrating on the production and marketing of three wheelers alone.
Sooraj Automobiles Limited has appointed a number of dealers across various states of India for selling Sitara three wheelers. These dealers have all necessary service and backup facilities to ensure that the customers are always promptly taken care of. This sales network covers the states of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan & Madhya Pradesh, among others. The dealers also provide wide ranging credit schemes and options to the customers of Sitara three wheelers. Sitara three wheelers are approved for credit by ICICI Bank Limited and State Bank of India.
