Empowered with a vision of humanitarian assistance and guided by an objective to be a vital resource of spreading the success and benefits of adult education, Dhanpatmal Virmani Education and Management Society started the computer based adult functional literacy programme in Delhi in 2003. We developed a simple module that helped us reach out to deprived and illiterate people living in slum clusters. Computer based functional literacy relies on congnitive capabilities of individuals to associate complex visual patterns representing words in indian scripts with their meaning as well as their phonetic utterances. Animation software developed by TATA Consultancy Services is used for creating the backdrop of puppet show idiom and to introduce words and concept.
