Pashmina refers to a type of fine cashmere wool and the textiles made from it. The name comes from Pashmineh (???ی??), made from Persian pashm ("wool"). The wool comes from changthangi or pashmina goat, which is a special breed of goat indigenous to high altitudes of the Himalayas in Nepal, Pakistan and northern India. Pashmina shawls are hand spun, wovenand embroidered in Kashmir, and made from fine cashmere fibre.

Pashmina fibre is less than 15-19 microns in thickness making it very soft (whereas human hair is 75 microns thick) one pashm produces 3 to 8 ounces of Pashmina per year.
