Damini- the Artisans of India is a movement started in 2001 by journalist and writer Parveen Sikkandar in Southern India to curb the exploitation of rural artisans by retail giants, middle men, fashion designers and corporate houses in the name of ethical business. Within a year this movement itself led her to establish Damini Artisans a brand that encourages craftsmen and self help groups to develop new products . Parveen strongly believes that only timely payment can encourage any artist and that’s why the company has the logo “100% paid”. When you purchase any product from Damini you can be very sure that the artisan has been very fairly paid for his labor. Damini Artisans as a policy does not use pictures / write ups of craftsmen or women in poverty to sell its products. The company stongly believes that each product sells for itself due to its quality, beauty and affordability. With a work force of more than 150 artisans and 20 ace designers you can expect only the best of Indian art in each product. From stationery to jewellery Damini Artisans specializes in merchandising malls and fine boutiques.
