About UsData Physics was founded by two Alumni of Hewlett Packard in 1984. Dave Snyder had designed hardware and software for the Fourier Analyzers developed at the Santa Clara Division of HP. Sri Welaratna had worked for HP in England, Europe and then in Santa Clara developing applications of Fourier Analyzers. The first project Dave and Sri did together was the design of the UD 400AT vibration controller, the first to use a PC as the host computer and a DSP based signal processing peripheral. This project began in 1983 and used the Texas Instruments TMS32010, the very first Digital Signal Processor.
tarting with the SignalCalc software library for HP Basic computers Data Physics evolved to signal processing solutions on PCs using add on DSP hardware to provide the computational power required for realtime measurements and analysis. The major milestones on the way to the current position of dominance in vibration control and dynamic signal analysis are:
* 1984: Data Physics Corp.
* 1986: DP420 FFT Analyzer on PC using embedded DSP
* 1987: Continuous Convolution Algorithm
* 1988: 1st Vibration Controller in a PC
* 1996: World?s Smallest FFT Analyzer
* 1998: ISO Certification
* 2000: I*Star Acquisition, Multi Shaker Control
* 2001: DP Electrodynamic Shakers
* 2003: Abacus DSPcentric Hardware Platform
* 2005: Quattro ? Ultra-Portable DSPEngine
* b2005: Acquisition of Gearing & Watson Electronics, Ltd.
* 2009: Acquisition of Ling Electronics, Ltd.
Data Physics has been supplying high performance solutions in signal processing to the noise and vibration community for more than 25 years. With the recent addition of a full line of electrodynamic shakers to complement its vibration controllers and dynamic signal analyzers, Data Physics is a total solution supplier for vibration applications. |
Team / ManpowerSri R. Welaratna (President & Chief Executive Officer)
As President and CEO, Sri Welaratna leads Data Physics, planning its strategic direction and position in industry. Under his leadership Data Physics continues to innovate, striving for excellence and pushing technological frontiers in the test and measurement industry.
Sri Welaratna came across the Fourier Transform in 1971 while doing research at the University of Bradford in England and went to work for Hewlett-Packard, first in Europe and then at Santa Clara. His work at HP included applications engineering, marketing, and software development. Prior to starting Data Physics, Sri had a career as an independent consultant doing work for a number of international and Silicon Valley companies including IBM. Sri then joined with Dave Snyder to form Data Physics in 1984.
David C. Snyder (Chairman & Chief Technology Officer)
As Chairman and CTO, Dave Snyder provides essential technology and engineering leadership for the development of Data Physics products. Dave Snyder’s ingenuity and technical expertise has led to numerous successful generations of DP hardware and software.
Before joining forces with Sri Welaratna to form Data Physics, Dave worked with high-energy physics particles at LRL, low-altitude satellite orbits at DDI and Digital Signal Processing at HP Santa Clara. He was also an independent consultant, with clients such as Fairchild Semiconductor. He is a 10-year alumnus of HP where he contributed to the world’s first commercial Fourier Analyzer, the HP5450, introduced the microcode architecture that was the basis of the HP5451 and future generations of HP Fourier Analyzers and designed hardware, microcode and software for the HP5427 digital vibration controller and the HP5420 portable FFT analyzer.
Sabine Castagnet (Chief Operating Officer)
As COO, Sabine Castagnet is responsible for business development, financial management, human resources and operations at Data Physics. Her role encompasses many facets of the business including enhancing the internal organization processes and infrastructure that will allow Data Physics to continue to grow and serve its customers.
Pradeep Subrahmanyan (Vice President)
As VP of Engineering, Pradeep Subrahmanyan leads a multi-disciplined engineering organization comprising a number of teams spread across international boundaries. His proficiency in all engineering disciplines across the entire range of Data Physics products enables him to provide inspirational leadership to product development engineers working on the varied subjects of signal processing, mechanical design and magnetic circuits.
