With their superior performance, Nomex® papers can help improve the performance and endurance of all types of transformers, including ventilated dry-types, cast resin types and liquid-filled transformers. This is due to the fact that Nomex® papers and pressboard materials do not shrink, embrittle, soften or melt during short term exposure to temperatures as high as 300°C, and because it maintains good insulating properties continuously at 220°C for 10 years.

Equally important, the strength and resilience of Nomex® papers and pressboards add durability to rotating equipment, even in severe operating conditions. Such conditions include the extreme shock and vibration experienced in steel mill drives and railway traction motors, as well as the abrasion caused by thermal expansion and centrifugal forces in standby gas-turbine generators.

Emerging green technologies are also benefiting from the protective properties of Nomex®. DuPont™ engineers are currently working with leading wind turbine and hybrid automobile manufacturers to develop Nomex®-based insulation for their specific applications.

Nomex® papers are used in electrical equipment for their outstanding thermal resistant properties and mechanical strength. They also offer excellent compatibility with other materials.

Nomex® electrical insulation products have the right balance of properties for use in transformers, motors, generators and other electrical equipment. Our papers and pressboards are used unvarnished, as wrappers around switches and controls, as dielectric and physical barriers under circuit boards, as bus bars or terminal strips and as labels. This unique balance of properties has exceeded manufacturers’ expectations for over 40 years.

Nomex® papers also provide high levels of electrical, chemical and mechanical integrity when converted into various sheet forms. Used properly, Nomex® products can extend the life of electrical equipment, reduce premature failures and repairs, and act as a safety measure in electrical stress situations.
