Footwear and Carpet Backing
DuPont Typar® is a nonwoven fabric composed of thermally bonded, continuous polypropylene filaments. The structure of Typar® gives it good tensile strength even in diagonal direction and filtration properties. In addition, Typar® is made of 100% polypropylene, which makes it resistant to rot, moisture and chemical attack. |

| Leather/Sports Footwear DuPont™ Xavan® that is the standard for high strength reinforcement for shoe manufacture. The tough continuous fibres of Xavan® give durability over its lifespan. The Xavan® product line offers physical properties exceeding the requirements of the sports and leisure industry.
Xavan® is a tough and versatile non woven polypropylene material developed by DuPont™. In a unique integrated manufacturing process, continuous filaments of polypropylene are spun and formed into a multi directional web that is thermally bonded at every filament crossover point. Both in production and in use, Xavan® is harmless to health and the environment. Made of 100% polypropylene with no added binders or fillers, it is easy to recycle.

Applications:-
Xavan® is the ideal material to reinforce eyelets, straps, stiffeners, toe caps and show quarters. It will improve all kinds of footwear, including sports shoes, leather shoes, boots and sandals.

Carpet Backing We offer carpet backing under the brand name DuPont™ Typar®. Made from DuPont™ Typar®, these carpet backing range includes:
• Broadloom - Broadloom(or wall-to-wall) carpet is normally manufactured and sold in 4m width and in 5m width.
Important properties of a backing for this kind of carpet are:
- dimensional stability, so that any pattern, printed or tufted, appears on the carpet in the correct dimensions as designed
- pile uniformity
- easy processing through the complete manufacturing cycle
- good coating adhesion due to the capillary effect of the fine fibers, the coating adheres perfectly to the backing
• Rugs, bath rugs and mats - Rugs and bath mats can either be tufted on large 4m wide machines, or the backing is cut to finished dimensions at first, and the tufting is done on small table-tuft machines. The use of a non woven backing is required, because the multitude of bonding points at the fibers crossover points prevent loss of fibers.
Important properties of a backing for this kind of carpet are:
- Non-ravelling for all techniques
- Stiffness
- Dimensional stability
- Coating adhesion: due to the capillary effect of the fine fibers, the coating adheres perfectly to the backing
- Coating affinity: -The hydrophilic surface of DuPont™ carpet backing allows an easy uptake of today's water-based synthetic and natural latex
- PVC coating for walk-off mats / welcome mats is easily applied
- Synthetic (or natural) rubber based coatings have also been applied with success. Accurate temperature control is essential in this case
