Florocid Injection

Florocid Injection

Description

Florocid is a parenteral preparation for the treatment of elephantoid changes in filariasis.

Actions

Mechanism of action of sodium fluoride in the treatment of elephantoid changes in filariasis is not well understood. However, Florocid therapy has been reported to provide effective clinical results in elephantoid changes due to filariasis with swellings upto three times the normal size and shape. In enormous swelling some subjective improvement has been noted. Florocidtherapy in some obstinate cases of chronic funiculitis with small hydrocele, recurrent filarial lymphangitis, filarial chronic pelvic cellulitis has been found to produce satisfactory clinical response. Softening of filarial swellings is also observed in a good number of cases with Florocid therapy, probably, due to some fibrolytic action of sodium fluoride. Improvement has also been noted in cases of chyluria.

Adverse Reactions

Florocid is generally well-tolerated and no toxic symptoms are reported to occur with scheduled dosage. Some patients may complain of pain for a few days.

Dosage & Administration

Contents of one ampoule of sodium fluoride and one ampoule of procaine hydrochloride are to be drawn into a syringe and injected subcutaneously once a week for 4 weeks. The course may be repeated if necessary, after a rest period of 4 weeks. A preliminary anti-infective treatment facilitatesFlorocid therapy.

Packing

Ampoules of 4 x 1 ml of each in a carton.

Tonoferon Drops (Pediatric)

Tonoferon Drops (Pediatric)

Description

TONOFERON SYRUP is a comprehensive preparation containing iron in colloidal form and essential haematopoietic factors-Vitamin B12 & Folic Acid along with Lysine for normal growth and its maintenance in children.

Both vitamin B12 and folic acid in  TONOFERON DROPS, help cell metabolism, DNA synthesis and normal haemopoiesis. Deficiencies of both vitamin B12 and folic acid are common due to dietary inadequacies and particularly to infants born to mothers who are grossly deficient in folate or vitamin B12 during pregnancy. Supplementation of both folic acid and vitamin B12 is therefore necessary in such cases to prevent nutritional megaloblastic anaemia. Lysine provides dietary supplement, increasing appetite and weight gain in children

Indications

TONOFERON DROPS is useful for the treatment of common iron deficiency anaemia associated with dietary inadequacy in children. To provide dietary supplementation for rapid growth and weight gain in children and also for improving general metabolism and increasing appetite.

Contraindications

Patients with pernicious anaemia; hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.

Adverse Reactions

Mild gastric intolerance may occur in iron sensitive patients.

Precautions

Underlying causes should be determined in cases where anaemia exists. Folic acid may mask the presence of pernicious anaemia due to reversal of blood picture to normal but not affecting the progression of neurological manifestations. In those with conditions tending to vitamin B12 depletion, serum B12 level should be regularly assessed during therapy and in children with vitamin B12 deficiency concomitant parenteral vitamin B12 therapy may be necessary

Drug Interactions

Concomitant therapy with antacids diminishes iron absorption. On concomitant administration of iron and tetracycline the absorption of both the drugs is markedly reduced leading to diminished therapeutic effectiveness

Dose

Infants less than one year : 5 drops twice daily.

Children above 1 year : 10 drops twice daily.

Packing

Phials 15 ml

Keralin Skin Ointment

Keralin Skin Ointment

Description
Cyclovarin is an effective non-hormonal, herbo-mineral formulation for the management of common functional gynaecological disorders.

Actions
Keralin formulation is based on various findings of effective clinical results with combination of salicylic acid and benzoic acid. Salicylic acid being actively keratolytic causes shedding of keratin layer of the epidermis facilitating the penetration of other medicaments into the skin and produces their action against the skin lesion. Salicylic acid has fungicidal property and has bacteriostatic action due to its property of interfering with the synthesis of pantothenic acid by bacteria. Benzoic acid, in combination with salicylic acid, is highly fungistatic and fungicidal and also has the advantage of exfoliating the upper layer of the skin in which the fungi are embedded. Benzoic acid has active germicidal property and its combination with salicylic acid help hyperemia to occur aiding in destruction of the parasite. Hydrocortisone acetate offers effective antiinflammatory and antiallergic properties with little side effects.

Adverse Reactions
Allergic reactions may occur.

Precautions
Keralin should be used with care over large areas of skin. There will be a warm feeling on the area where the ointment is applied.

Dosage & Administration
Rub a small quantity of Keralin on the affected parts of the skin. On tender parts of the body apply a smaller amount of the ointment carefully. There will be a warm feeling on the area where the ointment is applied.

Even in the presence of blood, serum and necrotic tissue, PVP-I does not lose its bactericidal activity. Iodolan (PVP-I) is non-toxic and is free of the problems of induced bacterial resistance

Paxum Tablets & Injection

Paxum Tablets & Injection

Description

Paxum is a psychotherapeutic agent of the most popular and widely used benzodiazepine derivative, diazepam. In many individuals, it produces satisfactory anxiolytic effect in doses that do not cause clinically important sedation or impairment of psychomotor function. Other than its use as an anxiolytic agent, diazepam is also used as an anticonvulsant and a sedative and skeletal muscle relaxant. In addition to these therapeutic actions the drug lacks significant side effects outside of Central Nervous System and has low toxicityÑthe factors that have contributed to its wide-spread clinical use.

In elderly or debilitated patients and in children initial dosage should be small and increments made gradually. Patients on prolonged therapy should have periodic blood counts and liver function tests. Alcohol may alter the patients response to diazepam. Diazepam readily crosses the placenta and due care should be taken in using it in late pregnancy. I.V. administration should be done slowly to avoid the risk of apnoea. Withdrawal of the drug from patients receiving very high doses or for prolonged period of time should be gradual. The drug should not be mixed with i.v. fluids or solutions of other drugs. Safety and efficacy of parenteral diazepam has not been established in the neonates.

Drug Interactions

Concurrent use of PAXUM (Diazepam) with
alcohol, narcotic analgesics, sedative-hypnotics leads to increased detrimental effect on psychomotor skills, hypotension and muscular weakness.

With Cimetidine the effects of diazepam may be enhanced leading to development of side effects; with antacids (aluminium hydroxide) the absorption of diazepam may be delayed.

The clinical effects of benzodiazepines may be altered by cigarette smoking. Whether this interaction is due to induction of drug metabolizing enzymes or due to other effects in Central Nervous System is not well understood.
