Magnetic separation is a continuous process by which magnetic material is separated from non-magnetic material. The mixture of magnetic and non-magnetic material is passed through a strong magnetic field. Magnetic material is magnetized and gets attracted to the surface of the separator and is discharged in a chute. the efficiency of the separator depends upon the strength of the magnet and the speed of the conveyor. The length of the magnet is designed such that the magnetic material is in the magnetic field for a period of 0. 4 to 0. 5 secs. Strontium ferrite permanent blocks are used in the magnet assembly to achieve a surface gauss of 2500. For special application nd feb magnet blocks are used to achive higher magnetic strenght. the gap between the magnet and the conveyor is adjustable. Lower the gap, better the separation efficiency. Individual drive is used for the separator and the conveyor. Adjustable stainless steel splitters are provided between the two chutes. Vibrating feeder with two unbalance motor is also provided, which ensures that the material spreads across the belt to achieve better separation. Electro zavod overband magnetic separators are available in two basic designs - in line & transverse in line models are suspended along the main conveyor belt. The separator is mounted at an angle as shown for better performance. The belt of the separator travels in the same direction as the main process conveyor with a speed which is equal or greater than the main burden speed. The tramp is discharged away from the conveyor belt in the direction of travel. transverse separators are suspended at right angles to the main conveyor. It can be installed anywhere along the conveyor line. The tramp is discharged at right angles away from the conveyor. electro zavod suspended magnets these operate most efficiently when they are placed at an angle over the conveyor head or over the discharge point of a vibratory feeder. In such cases, the magnets can remove more tramp from deeper burdens even at higher conveyor speeds since the burden loosens up and fans out. Operating principle of magnetic drum separator ez drum separators are primarily designed and manufactured as low field intensity separators. They have an open magnetic system with the magnetic poles located in one plain. Low field intensity separators are employed for separating iron particles from bulk material whenever foreign iron disturbs the subsequent process sequences. It is also used for removing or enriching strongly magnetic content of dry minerals. the most widely used application of drum separators is by deflection separation in which the bulk material is fed onto the top of the drum. This must be spread evenly over the entire width in order to ensure optimum utilisation of the drum. The use of a vibratory feeder is appropriate for feeding the material tangentially onto the drum. This operating procedure ensures minimum wear to the outer drum and guarantees constant-speed application. At normal feed speed of 0. 2-0. 3 m/sec. Using vibratory feeders, the material is spread and distributed quickly over the drum, which rotates at a speed of 0. 6-0. 8 m/sec. The material is reduced to 1/3 - 1/4 of the feed layer height. on permanent drum separators rectangular magnetic blocks generally made of sintered hard ferites are radially magnetized and mounted on a soft iron plate. the magnetic drum is connected to a rigidly fixed shaft, the position of which is adjustable.
