About Us

Elegant Papyrus is an exporter of handmade paper products from India. In keeping with our country's ancient tradition of recycling and reusing things found in nature, so as to leave as small a footprint as possible, we have taken to handmade paper and products made from it.

The existence of an Indian tradition of writing on leaves of palm trees predates the existence of handmade paper to 3 BC. At that time, Indians were also believed to be using paper made of cellulose fibers. Similarly, Egyptians made use of a reed by the name of papyrus to make paper and that's how papyrus became a synonym for paper. Additionally, some say handmade paper has roots dating back to 5 AD when it began its journey from China to countries around the world.
