2. How can one determine "Bucket Spacing"?
Ans: Minimum bucket spacing has historically been nominal
projection plus 2". Many buckets are, however, being
used at projection plus 1", and some even closer. For
engineering purposes PREM recommends using nominal
projection plus 2".
3. How can one easily determine the quantity of buckets
for a given belt length?
Ans: One can easily determine the quantity of buckets
needed. Firstly, determine the vertical centers (spacing
between the buckets) in inches. Secondly, measure length of
belt in inches. Then divide the length of belt by vertical
centers and in this way, one can easily find the number of
buckets needed.
4. How should the dimensions of a bucket be accurately
measured?
Ans: Bucket should be measured on the outside.
(a) Width: Using a straight line, measure the distance
across the back of the bucket.
(b) Projection: The easiest way to measure projection is
from the bolt line in back of bucket to front lip. Be sure
to allow for thickness in back of bucket.
(c) Depth: Using a straight line down the side of the
bucket, measure the top of the back to the bottom of the
bucket.

1. How do one determine the proper bolt length for
bucket installation?
Ans: In order to determine the proper bolt length; Add
together the following thickness:
(a) the belt
(b) the back of the bucket
(c) Any washers required
(d) Twice the thickness of the nut
Round this total to the nearest ¼" standard bolt
length, and one can have the proper length for bucket
installation.
