As it is not possible to use line current directly for measurement and protective relays due to its high value & insulation problem. Current transformers are used to:

  • Reduce the line current to a value (e.g 1 amp.)which is suitable for standards measuring instruments, relays etc.
  • To isolate the measuring instruments, meters, relays etc. from direct line.
  • To protect measuring instruments against short circuit current.

    Principal of operation:-Current transformer works on the principal of variable flux. In the ideal current transformer, the secondary current would be exactly equal to(multiplied by turns ratio) the primary current. But in practice, some of the primary amp-turns are used for magnetizing the core.This causes an error, which is termed as current (ratio)error and phase error.



Summation Current Transformers

We?manufacture resin cast summation CTs which summates the current in a number of feeders in association with feeder current transformers.'When current flows in more than one feeder is required to be metered summation current transformer are used. These CTs are provided with more than one primary winding and one common secondary. The standard primary & secondary currents are 5 or 1 amp. Summation current transformers are generally manufacture-confirming to ISS 6949.

Zero Sequence Current Transformers
We manufacture Core balance or Zero sequence (Tape or Resin Cast ) CTs. These are  for sensitive earth leakage protection and earth fault protection. These are suitable for Bus bar of panels/ bus duct and cables etc.These are ring or rectangular type CTs & suitable for the measurement of the sum of three phase currents in a 3-ph cable. Under normal operating conditions this sum is zero. In the event of an earth-fault the sum of the current is equal to the zero sequence current. It is necessary to specify leakage current to be detected along with minimum setting of the relay and size of cable at the time of ordering CT.

Wound Primary Current Transformers
Wound Primary Current Transformers
We manufacture wound primary CTs (Tape and Resin Cast) designed for large burdens and better accuracies (Metering, Protection and Special protection PS Class). Secondary terminal with threaded insert and primary with brass plated studs suitable for precision measuring test apparatus. Multiratio C.T. available in the portable wooden case to be used as laboratory standard.

Secondary Current : 5, 1, 5/rt3, 1/rt3A

For Metering : 0.1 to 1 A
