Ażżżbad IT firm helps set up e-governance in Bangladesh  [04-JUN-11]
An Ahmedabad-based IT company has helped the Bangladesh government build e-governance to ensure transparency and manage public funds effectively. Bangladesh unveiled the Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) in Dhaka on Thursday. The country had so far been conducting its procurement processes manually.

    e-Procurement Technologies Ltd, set up in 2006, has developed the e-GP software for the Bangladesh government. E-procurement is the use of secure web-based platforms by the government as a buyer to communicate with bidders in a paperless environment, free from the inconveniences and delays. Through the web interface, procurement information becomes accessible, transparency is enhanced and corruption curbed.

    Suraj Radhakrishnan, vice president, business development, e-Procurement Technologies, said, “The Bangladesh government has a Public Procurement Reforms (PPR) in place, which is their procurement guidelines for all government procurements whether it is for goods, works or services. Till date, all the procurement through tenders was done manually. Our application will put the entire practice online.”

    Around 75% money of the annual development programme is used for public procurement in Bangladesh. Bangladesh will initially introduce the system in four big government agencies and all the public sector organisations will be brought under the system in phases.
