CADWELD CADLOK Anode Contact Connection System

CADLOK is a system of connecting copper anode contacts to an aluminum busbar for primary pre-bake aluminum smelting.

Traditional MIG welding poses several inherent problems, including the need to drop the load or shut off the power prior to welding because of the electromagnetic field generated. The new CADLOK connection system solves many of the problems associated with traditional anode contact connections.

Note: All 3/16" Joint Head Bond Terminals are 3/4" long; 5/16" are 1" long.

Necessary Welding Material, a flint igniter and a pair of replacement molds are packaged with each 100 bonds. Two complete mold cleaners are supplied with each 500 bonds.


Engineering Specifications
All electrical connections to rail should be welded with the CADWELD copper-based exothermic welding process as manufactured by ERICO.

All connections within the splice bars should be to the "field" side of the railhead.

All other connections should be made on the rail web at the neutral axis.

More Information

The CADWELD process is a method of making welded electrical connections in which no outside source of heat or power is required. For aluminum cable connections, powdered metals (tin oxide and aluminum) are dumped into a lid crucible section of a graphite mold and ignited by using a flint ignitor. The exothermic reaction that takes place is the reduction of tin oxide by aluminum. This reaction produces a superheated mixture of aluminum and tin that flows onto the conductors and causes them to be melted and then fused into a solid homogenous mass.  After re-insulating the cable, the resulting connection will have a current-carrying capacity equal to or greater than the conductors being joined and the connection will not loosen, corrode or increase in resistance.

These surge diverters offer economical and reliable protection from transients on coaxial antenna RF feeders cables.

They are comprised of a leadless gas discharge tube (gas arrester) housed in a chrome plated brass block. Careful design and precision machining has allowed the match between the characteristic impedance of the unit and the cable to be optimized. This attention to detail has resulted in a unit capable of operating at typical power and frequency levels of 1000W and 3GHz respectively, whilst minimizing the insertion and return losses.

How to Choose the Correct CSP
For RF circuit protection the CSP is available with a choice of two nominal clamping voltages. The selection of the CSP unit is based on the peak transmitting power of the communication circuit. From this the peak circuit voltage is calculated and the CSP with the next highest clamping voltage is selected.

The formula is:

Vpeak = VSWR x 1.4 x Sqrt(50 x Transmit Power)

Where VSWR is the Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (use 1.5 if unsure) and Transmit Power is in Watts.

ERICO's patented Universal Terminal Block is an integral part of the ERICO Protection Panel (EPP) system. The Universal Terminal Block combines existing AAR accepted materials and practices with an advanced engineering approach to providing the necessary low impedance path to earth. It can be installed to the front or back of the surge panel.

Features

  • Universal Applications - The universal block is very versatile and can be used in many wiring schemes, such as the ERICO Protection Panel or the Faraday Shield Approach to achieve a low impedance path to earth. With the Faraday Shield Approach, the block is easily installed to the ground plane for either "clean side" (equipment) or "dirty side" (field) installation.
  • Facilitates proper wiring practices - The Universal Terminal Block separates arrester input and output wiring to eliminate electrical coupling. Without this separation, electrical coupling can corrupt information and damage sensitive electronics.

The DSD1150 series of surge suppressors provide economical and reliable protection to primary distribution panel boards and power distribution systems. They are intended for locations classified for devices tested to IEC61643-1 test class 1 (or VDE classification B). Internal thermal disconnect devices ensure safe isolation during sustained and abnormal events on the distribution network, or at end-of-life. A visual indicator flag provides user-feedback in the event of such operation. In addition, a set of voltage-free contacts is provided for remote signaling if replacement is due.

    The SBG150 is a gas (petrol)-powered portable rail grinder from ERICO® designed for use with rail steel. The SBG150 allows grinding in tight areas and grinds the head and web with the same piece of equipment.

    This powerful, lightweight unit has a 39 cc two-cycle engine that is 10% larger than previous models, yet it weighs only 18 lbs (8.2 kg). Designed with operators’ needs in mind, the grinder features an adjustable tool rest that allows the operator to “rest” or support the grinder on top of the rail during use. This helps to eliminate fatigue, and the tool rest can be easily adjusted for proper positioning of the grinding wheel.

    The maximum wheel speed is 6,000 rpm, and the power head handle incorporates a base plate to protect the engine from damage. The handle design provides proper balance while in operation, and includes anti-vibration padding to reduce operator fatigue while grinding.
