Himalayas are rugged foothills are carved
into deep gorges and ravines by uncountable streams and the descent of
the five rivers-----the Sutlej, Beas, Ravi, Chenab and Jhelum. The Kullu
Valley in Himachal Pradesh and the Vale of Kashmir are both Himalayan
valleys, as is the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal. The final southern range
of the Himalayas, the Shiwalik Hills, ends abruptly in the great
northern plains of India. The season for trekking in Himalaya is
rather short due to climatic conditions. The passes are difficult to
trek, as they remain covered with snow during most of the year. June to
mid-September are the months when trekking is possible in most of the
trekking regions in India.
The ancient city of Ladakh is a land of
celebration, with its traditions manifested in its centuries old
monuments, monasteries, oral literature, art forms, fairs and festivals.
Ladakh offers a plenty of areas to keep you occupied. The monasteries
constitute the fountain-head of Ladakhs Buddhist religion and
culture. The tranquil ambience amidst the vibrant colours of the
monastery provides a spiritual experience.
Ladakh Trekking : Adventure is plenty in Ladakh.
Trekking possibilities include short day-long walks up and down mountain
slopes leading to quiet villages and monastic settlements.
River rafting : Many options are available in the
major tributaries of the region. The best stretch for professionally
guided runs in white-water, is on the Indus, between Spituk and Saspol.

Sikkim is a land of magnificent rhododendrons and orchids, peppered
with vibrantly coloured monasteries. But it is most popular as the host
to Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world.
Orchid Sanctuaries : Around 454 species of Orchids are
on display in the Orchid Sanctuary. Another, much larger, orchid
sanctuary, is the Orchidarium, alongside Rani Khola.
Kanchenjunga National Park : Access to the heart of
this magnificent place, including the vast Zemu Glacier, is generally
only permitted to mountaineering expeditions, or experienced trekking
parties, using the services of a recognized travel agency.
Trekking in Sikkim : The Pelling-Khecheopari trek
links interesting villages interspersed with sparkling lakes. The most
popular trek yet is the one from Yuksom-Dzongri-Goecha La for superb
views of the Kunchenjunga. The Khecheopari, a sacred lake, surrounded by
prayer flags and forested hills, too is a major tourist attraction.
