Composition:

Mechanism of action:

Any system or method that can inhibit the formation of glycoproteins, proteoglycans and glycosaminoglycans will inhibit hair growth.

The dermal papilla, situated below the hair follicle is a zone of intensive activity assembling amino acids, protein, lipids and sugars into glycoproteins, proteoglycans. These are then transferred to the receptors situated inside the hair follicles for promoting hair growth. The hair follicles divide more quickly than other parts of the body and hence require continuous supply of nutrients. This cell division in the hair follicle is stimulated by an enzyme called cyclin dependent kinase 2 (CDK 2). The kinases have the ability of catalising transfer of ATP (Adenosine triphosphate).
Glycoproteins, proteoglycans and glycosaminoglycans are three related compounds present in the hair follicle and are source of nutrients. Glycoproteins are protein molecules containing amino acids with oligosaccharide side chains. Oligosaccharide chains consist of sugar residues like glucose, mannose, N-acetyl glucosamine and other sugar moieties linked to protein molecule. This is then transformed through a series of enzyme transformations to the active glycoprotein which diffuses into the dermal papilla and hence to the hair follicle for hair growth.
