We present reliable impulse demagnetizer which demagnetizes the magnets in a single shot. It operates on the principle of capacitive discharge. The unit is connected to matching coil which generates high amplitude decaying field. Since the stored energy is used in a single shot, the power consumed by the unit is extremely low. Typically, in one impulse it demagnetizes approx 50 magnets( 12x12x15mm). It operates at approx 20 times/minute and consumes approx .05 kwh units of power. Its coil does not require special water cooling.

Our impulse magnetizer operates on stored energy principal where voltage is stored in a capacitor bank, usually requiring several seconds and the stored energy is then discharged through a unidirectional switch into a magnetizing fixture. Duration and wave shape of the pulse is dependent on the capacity of the bank, the inductances of the fixtures and to some extent the resistance of the fixture. Pulse length from 100 microseconds to several tens of milliseconds may be obtained and thus extremely high currents and consequently high fields may be obtained without undue heating effects and depending upon the pulse duration which varies with each magnetizer type, the magnetizing field can reach upto 60000 oersteds.
