Welcome to Garware Polyester. We are the largest as well as the first company to produce polyester film in India for the last 20 years. We have grown to be a force to reckon with within the polyester film industry. We are continously diversifying to meet new challenges and reach new horizons.  

At Garware Polyester we serve the need of diverse industries. Our product range include films that cater to the solar control industry, packaging industry, reprographic industry etc. 

We have four fully integrated film lines that enable us to meet our customer demands. We are an ISO:9001:2000 company with a customer base that spans the globe.

With our vertically integrated production plants, four independent manufacturing lines and skilled manpower, we have built a business that spans the globe. 

Serving the needs of diverse industries, our bi-axially oriented polyethylene teraphthalate film range includes sun control films, overhead projector films and films for - packaging, cable insulation, audio tapes, tracing & drafting - to name a few. 

With an annual turnover in excess of US $100 million, we employ more than 1500 employees in our factories and offices. The Corporate Head Quarter is located in Mumbai and the company's main production facilities are at Aurangabad and Nasik.

Our accomplishments spans five decades.

The forties witnessed the birth of Garware, a simple manufacturing unit producing plastic buttons for the Navy. We later diversified our product base to include knitting needles, pen-holders and toothbrushes.

In the fifties we lead the race by manufacturing injected, moulded and extruded plastic products like television casings & fan blades.

The sixties brought new challenges in the form of new technologies. We responded by expanding our product line to include PVC pipes, fittings and allied products. End sixties saw the emergence of Polyester film and a whole new world of possibilities opened up for us.

By the seventies we set out to conquer the entire world. Our expansion plans were launched with exports to the Middle East. To meet growing demands two new plants were set up - the polyester film plant in Aurangabad and the metallising unit in Nasik.

In the eighties we produced sure winners like Garfilm, Sun Control and X-Ray film - all polyester based and indigenously developed. We were matching strides with developments worldwide.

The nineties, the era of high technology , saw us taking on new challenges.

Initially founded by Mr. B D Garware, the company was furthered by Mr. Shashikant Garware, who steered the company through four decades of growth, diversification and changing technologies.

An ISO 9002 certified company since 1994, we have achieved a number of awards for innovation and excellence.

In 1980 we were awarded the Gold Shield by the Government of India (Ministry of Industry), in recognition of our capability for developing polyester film in-house and thus saving substantial foreign exchange for the government.

In 1988, the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India recognised our excellent R&D effort with the Silver Shield award, for developing ray film with polyester base.

We have also been consistently winning the Top Exporter Award from the Government of India (Ministry of Commerce) as well as the Government of Maharashtra. The 70's award related to PVC pipes and fittings, but since 1984 it was our polyester film which took the lead.

We have patented the process of dyed film used in the solar control applications internationally. The Department of Patents, United States, have lauded this process, appreciating its flexibility in terms of producing a high quality product that requires no special equipment and is well suited to production conditions. 

We also have registered trademarks for Garfilm with the registrar of trademarks. 

We have a vertically integrated set-up that streamlines production activity. 

We are among the top seven companies in the world to have a wide product range. We offer an enviable range that cater to diverse industries: from packaging to photography, candy wraps to cable wraps, reprographics to refrigerators.

DMT, Di-Methyl Terephthlate, is manufactured using paraxylene and methanol with continuous oxidation / distillation process. Methanol is partially recovered during the polyester chips manufacturing. The plant capacity is 60,000 MTA. DMT will be utilised in the molten state in the polyester plant. Methanol recovered from polymerisation will be recycled to DMT plant.

PET Chips are manufactured by using DMT and MEG (Mono Ethylene Glycol), with Methanol as a bi-product. PET chips are manufactured at two different locations, one with a batch polymerisation of 21,000 MTA and a continuous polymerisation of 30,000 MTA. All speciality grade chips required for manufacturing polyester film with various additives are manufactured in-house.

BoPET Film Lines comprise four independent lines situated at two different locations, manufacturing films in the range of 10-35 microns and having a total capacity of 42,000 MTA. The two plants are :

Waluj plant, Aurangabad with Line IV & V. 

Line IV is designed specifically for super clear films with double-sided offset coating. Installed and commissioned in 1996, this line manufactures thick film from 36 to 190 micron. State-of-art equipment installed includes M/s Dornier-Germany, Siemens, Buhler, Measurex-USA, Max Control System-USA, Slitter Kampf-Germany and others.

Line V, a super high-speed line, offers one side gravure coating and the other side corona treating facilities. Installed and commissioned in 1996, Line V is capable of producing heat sealable films by co-extrusion method. Manufacturing thin film from 10 to 25 micron, this line uses state-of-art equipment from M/s Bruckner-Germany and Atlas.

Chikalthana plant, Aurangabad with Line I & II

Line I was designed and developed to produce electric motor grade film (motor grade film market share exceeds 20% in Europe, has an established presence in the USA too). Installed and commissioned in 1975, Line I manufactures thick film from 50 to 350 micron.

Line II, a specific product line, offers gravure one side coating and one side corona treatment facility. Installed and commissioned in 1982, this line manufactures thin films and specialty films in 10, 12 and 23 microns. It  has state-of-art equipment from M/s Barmag, Measurex, Proctor, Fluid Dynamics, and Kampf.

Nasik plant, the Metallising Unit of Garware Polyester.

In operation since 1978, this plant manufactures Metallised films, Metallised yarn with dyeing guarantee, Tracing drafting film, Colour cable wrapping film, OHP film and others.

Sun Control Film Plant, Chikalthana, Aurangabad. 
The Sun control film was introduced in 1982 and was patented in the USA. Designed to control solar energy passing through glass, widely used in buildings and automobiles, Garware Sun control film is accepted throughout the world as an effective "energy saver".

From the beginning R&D has been a primary area of interest for us. Focussing on relevant technology to meet specific needs of our customers, we have produced highly innovative products. 

Our R&D facilities have been recognised by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India for its superior performance. 

The R&D activities are primarily carried out in Bombay, Nasik, Aurangabad and Waluj. Our major achievements in polyester film include sun control application , x-ray film with polyester base, matte, opaque, super clear polyester films with pretreatment both on-line and off-line.

• Ultra Violet & Visible Spectrophotometer. 
• Polaroid Microscope. 

The centre also has the facility to analyse samples by Volumetric and Gravimatric methods.
