In 1946, Mr. Gulab Chand Sharma – the founder person, decided to strike out on his own, and founded 'G.C. Sharma and Sons' at Connaught Circus. With a relatively modest approach, Mr. Sharma started a small firm but with the passage of time the company expanded its operations rapidly, throughout Delhi, to begin with, and eventually to the entire country. He was a founder-teacher in School of Planning & Architecture, Delhi. In 1981, when G.C. Sharma passed away, the firm had grown into premier company in the field.

G.C. Sharma's work was built on the unshakable belief that architecture as a discipline can not be distinct from its surroundings. He spared no efforts to integrate India's rich traditional heritage in his designs. Yet, he remained a firm adherent of the 'Form follows Function' school of thought, achieving impressive results without sacrificing economy and functionality. It is 20 years since he left us, but the heritage that he nurtured during his life lives on.

At present, this rich tradition is being carried on by his sons, who have followed in his footsteps, Mr. Lakshmi Chand Sharma, the eldest, studied in the U.S.A. and joined the firm in 1964. A strong advocate of inter-disciplinary fusion, he has been instrumental in giving the company a modern sense of direction and purpose.

Mr. Pravesh Chand Sharma, having trained as Mechanical Engineer and come aboard in 1971 while Mr. Subhash Chand Sharma, a Structural and Civil Engineer, joined in 1972. Mr. Sunil Chand Sharma an expert in Financial Management joined the team in 1982. Together, these four brothers have brought their practice, carrying it forward into a multidimensional and modern discipline.
