Conductors,Earth wires and Accessories

The conductors and earth wires supplied by GEM cover all applications and include earth wires, cable terminal ends, conductor accessories, compression fittings, bare conductor and low voltage overhead cable, medium voltage cables and building, underground and control cable. Its accessories include cable terminal ends and connectors, parallel groove clamps, clamps for conductors and earth wire and compression fittings.

Conductors - The conductors comprise of the following: Bare conductor and low voltage overhead cable &     bare copper conductors - half hard, hard and annealed copper wire.

Bare Aluminium Conductors

All aluminium conductor (AAC), hard drawn aluminium stranded conductor (HAL), all aluminium alloy conductor (AAAC), aluminium conductor steel reinforced (ACSR), aluminium clad steel core thermal resistant aluminium alloy (TACSR/AS), galvanized steel wire strands (GSW) low voltage multiplex cable (aluminium conductor, xlpe insulated) – duplex, triplex and quadruplex secondary and service cable medium voltage overhead xlpe covered conductor (all aluminium alloy conductor, XLPE insulated)

Medium Voltage Cables -

Earthing Conductors -

Comprising of tapes manufactured from high conductivity electrolytic grade copper, high conductivity aluminium or tin, bare or pvc covered. We also manufacture bare stranded copper conductors made from soft drawn stranded copper, bare or pvc covered. Earthing conductors also comprise of hard drawn high conductivity copper bars, flexible copper braid manufactured from high conductivity copper wire to bs 4109 – C101 suitable for earth bonding as well as flexible connectors.

Conductor Accessories
Vibration Damper, Spacers and Spacer Dampers : Vibration Damper and Spacer Damper are fitted on over-head conductors and ground wires to damp the Aeolian vibrations at support point to protect the conductor from fatigue failure. It is imperative for vibration dampers to be effective in reducing the vibration. These dampers are designed for two or four resonance frequencies as specified by the customer. Mass is made of Cast Iron duly Hot Dip Galvanized. Clamp is made of permanent Aluminium Casting on the messenger cable. The messenger wire used is galvanized high tensile steel standard wire.

The Rubber used is neoprene rubber. Mid Span Joints and Repair Sleeves: These can be supplied for all conductor and earth wire accessories. Aluminium Joints are extruded type and steel joints of galvanised special steel. Galvanised steel joints supplied for earth wires. Mid Span Joints and dead end fittings will develop minimum 95% of ultimate strength of the conductor and earth wire. Dead ends and mid span Joints have conductivity less than conductor. Compression is done from round to hexagonal shape. Universal Jointing compound for electrical connections is available on request.

ARMOUR-GRIP SUSPENSION UNIT is used as an alternative to suspension clamps, used alone or with Armour Rods, on support locations. These units are superior to its other alternatives owing to better protection from bending strains, compressive stress and abrasion. These units can be used to repair fatigue damaged conductors also and can be applied over existing Armour Rod to extend life of conductors. They can be used normally up to 300 line angle and for up to 600 angles double units should be used. These units develop slip strength of 10% to 20% of UTS of conductor.

SUSPENSION CLAMPS
ENVELOP DESIGN:

GEM offers complete range of envelop design clamp from 6mm dia to 55mm diameter conductor. Clamp bodies and keeper pieces are cast in high strength copper free Al-Si Alloy and are also made in other alloys, heat-treated depending upon strength requirement. The U-bolt and clevis pins are of galvanized steel while split pins are of stainless steel. These clamps offer minimum power loss and heating due to hysteresis effect at higher currents.Suitable socket / clevis eye are available as mating fitting.

FREE CENTRE DESIGN:


Designs with additional points of oscillation are available. These clamps are suitable for line conductors at any voltage level of practical application i.e. up to 500 KV and covers a conductor range from 7 mm to 51 mm diameter and can be used both on bare conductor wrapped with PA Rod.

They are comprised of aluminium alloy body and keeper, accurately designed both for the conductor seat and for external profile to ensure minimum local stress on conductor and have favourable distribution of electrical field from the point of view of corona and radio interference. The clamp is installed on the conductor by means of two U bolts complete with nut, spring washer, plain washer etc. made of galvanized steel.

TENSION CLAMPS:


Tension clamps are of various types such as Pistol Type Bolted Strain Clamp, Snubbing Type (Snail) Clamp and Straight Line Clamps.

PISTOL TYPE BOLTED STRAIN CLAMP


They are used where it is not desired to cut the conductor at tension point’s in-alternative to the compression type dead-end. They can be used for practically all system voltages with reasonably high mechanical and slip strength. Properly designed clamps can offer 80 to 95% slip strength for even 46 mm dia ACSR and consistent mechanical strength up to 11500kgs. They are made of cast aluminium alloy and have, following their size a variable number of galvanized steel U-bolts fitted with nut, spring washer and plain washer.

SNUBBING TYPE (SNAIL) CLAMP


This design has wide acceptance for distribution line applications up to conductor diameter of 14 mm. The design exploits the principle of snubbing to gain high holding power. The conductor forms almost or complete circle in following, the clamping seat and emerges from the Clamp ready to make up loop with extra snapping. They ideally suit AAC & AAAC. For ACSR with higher bending rigidity the straight line design or pistol design strain clamp offers minimum slipping strength between 80% to 95% of the conductor rated breaking strength. Clamp bodies and keeper are made of high strength aluminium alloy, U-bolt and associated components are of galvanized steel.

STRAIGHT LINE CLAMPS:

 Holding power of straight line design meets requirement of heavy primary distribution service and offers slip strength between 60% to 80% of rated breaking strength of conductor. The design offers easiest and fastest application. Their stream line shapes facilitate application of protection cover in hot line work. Keeper piece is provided with lifting eye. Clevis U-bolt and associated components are steel Hot Dip Galvanised Clamp bodies. Keeper pieces are also cast aluminium alloy.

Cable Terminal Ends
These cable terminal ends & tubular terminal ends are manufactured from soft drawn, pure, high conductivity copper tubes conforming to BS:1977. They are fully annealed to ensure qualities of electrical and mechanical strength. These are also produced from Aluminium tube. We also manufacture various types of terminal ends such as Ring Type Terminal Ends which are Electro-tinned for corrosion resistance as well as Pin Type Terminal Ends, Fork Type Terminal Ends and Reducer Pin Type of Terminal Ends. Inline Connectors and Ferrules – They are manufactured from soft drawn bare copper tube as per BS-1977 and aluminium to obtain high electrical and mechanical strength. They are used for straight through joints for joining of cable conductors.

Parallel Groove Clamps
Parallel Groove Clamps

Parallel groove clamps are used to link a bare conductor on an overhead line of equal nature. Designed to connect two parallel conductors to tap a secondary line or to close a loop of one conductor to anchor it on an insulator.

An all clamp body are made of high strength aluminium alloy cast out of permanent mould or made out of extruded aluminium with bolts of galvanised steel/stainless steel P. G. clamps have grooves conforming to conductor sizes which ensure sufficient surface contact and low electrical resistance. P.G. Clamps of bimetallic type are available as per requirements.

Compression Fittings
Compression Deadend :

Compression clamp, jumpers are made of extruded aluminium and sleeves are in galvanised forged steel. These clamps have conductivity equivalent to that of the conductor. All dead end clamps develop slip strength usually up to 100% of the rated conductor strength Dead ends are also supplied without plugs but with sealed ends and compound filled scratch brushed inner aluminium surfaces

Compression JOINT:


Compression Type Mid Span Joints for ACSR are supplied with extruded aluminium sleeve and galvanised steel joint. They develop full electrical conductivity and mechanical ratings of the conductor. They are also supplied without plugs but with sealed ends and compound filled, scratch brushed inner aluminium surfaces.

Repair Sleeves:


Compression type aluminium repair sleeves develop full conductivity and Mechanical rating of the conductor. They are supplied also with sealed ends scratch brushed inner surfaces.

T- connectors:


‘T’ connector for Aluminium conductors can be supplied with welded jumpers on request. Various other sizes can be supplied as per customer’s specification. Type-A connectors are for use up to 800 kv and are for better corona and RIV performance

Parallel Groove Clamps:

All clamp body are made of high strength aluminium alloy cast out of permanent mould or made out of extruded aluminium with bolts of galvanised steel / stainless steel. PG clamps have grooves conforming to conductor sizes which ensure sufficient surface contact and low electrical resistance. PG Clamps of bimetallic type are available as per requirements.

Earthwire Fittings:


Compression dead ends develop full strength and Conductivity of the conductor / earth wire. These are also available in non-magnetic stainless steel on request. Suspension and tension clamps are made of hot dip galvanised malleable iron Earth Bonds are usually made of stranded Tinned Copper Wires with crimped cable Sockets. Other arrangements for suspension & tension assembly on request.
