Double Bass Gut Strings-EADG

Double Bass Gut Strings-EADG

Top quality set of gut bass strings for upright bass these great gut bass strings at a great price  global gut upright double bass gut strings  - one set these strings are made from sheep gut. They are rectified to bring them to a standard diameter. Because they are a natural material, they are sensitive to changes in humidity and temperature. The sound obtained with the gut string is very clear and full bodied, with good sustain and warm response.

the g, d, a and e strings are plain gut,  (gdae) in the following four tensions/gauges length- 180cm string diameter (in millimeters): e 4. 5, a 3. 7, d 2. 7, g 2. 1

if you play bluegrass, rockabilly or baroque music, you owe it to yourself to play on a true, full set of all of gut strings. If your a jazz player looking for that classic pc tone, these strings are for you!

all gut strings are handcrafted. The mutton serosa (the material lining of the sheep's intestine used to make gut strings) is too delicate to process by machine. Even the twisting has to be done by hand by experienced craftsman to properly judge the correct tension.

our gut strings are from a indian craftsman using only mutton serosa. Mutton gives a lower tension, softer feel with warm rich tones. A high twist gives better sustain and tuning stability.  these strings are plain gut and need some prepping before installation. Strings need to be knotted on one end, installed on the bass and then finally sanded smooth because they are somewhat rough. This is all fairly easy to do. I soak the string in some warm water until soft. Then slowly started tying one of the ends in a knot, soaking the string as i pulled it into a knot shape. The e string is the hardest then it gets easier from there. I think i double knotted the d and g string to keep it from slipping threw the tailpiece. Then i installed the strings, tuned slightly, then waited until they were dry. After that i tuned to pitch then sanded them lightly with some 400 or higher grit sand paper. As these string are gut they will stretch a lot at first and need a lot of retuning before they settle in.

in my experience installing gut strings i've found that it is better to soak the whole string in some warm water for an hour or so before installation because its easier on the string as it wraps itself around the tuning posts and gets settled over the bridge and string nut. After drying overnight i tune to pitch then sand

most sets of plain gut bass strings start at around us$250. 00-us$450 a set and go up from there. These strings are a lot cheaper because you have to do some of the work yourself. But a great way to check out the gut tone without the massive dent in your wallet.   happy

Plain Gut Strings

These strings are made from sheep gut. They are rectified to bring them to a standard diameter. Because they are a natural material, they are sensitive to changes in humidity and temperature. The sound obtained with the gut string is very clear and full bodied, with good sustain and warm response.

Depending on the construction of the instrument on which they are to be used, strings will have either a ball or a loop at one end for purposes of anchorage to the instrument's body.

This is to make the string vibrate to the desired pitch, while maintaining a low profile and sufficient flexibility for purposes of playability
