Date Palm (Kharjura)

Diet with Dates Dates (Arabian Varieties - Phoenix dactyifera) are very nutritious fruits, rich in vitamins, iron and calcium. These are consumed as Fresh fruits, Dry fruits, as date Syrup, Milk shakes, Jam etc. Annual Indian consumption is about 2 Lakhs metric tones. Only 5% of Indian population is consuming dates. 90% of India's requirement is met by importing from Gulf countries, Egypt and Moraco. Successfully grown in few parts of Rajastan and Maharastra, Tamilnadu and Karnataka of course now in AP. Dates (Arabian variet) are from the family of palm trees and it grows in tropical climatic conditions. This can be gown in desert and also regular farms even in riverbeds and lake beds. Dates can withstand temperatures of -2 deg to 50 deg C. requires very little water. Highly disease and drought resistant and can be cultivated in High salinity Soils too In one acre we can plant up to 100 trees average. The fruits can be marketed or processed and stored up to two a year for marketing. Well grown trees will give an yield from 200 to 300 kgs per year. Per Kilo Average rate of all varieties would be about Rs. 50/- per kg This project gives a possibility of getting minimum Rs. One Lakh annual income per acre from successful cultivation of dates in dry land and regular farms.
