Steelage Industries Ltd. was established in early 1932, it was a period that was dominated by the textile industries and when there were not many engineering companies in operation. Rising above its milieu, the company set up facilities to manufacture steel furniture, cupboards and other allied products in a small shed at Mazagaon, Mumbai. In due course of time, it upgraded its facilities to also produce higher-end security products like safes, vaults and lockers for banks and documents and data protection cabinets for other users.?
As a step towards providing quality security solutions Steelage Industries Ltd. in the year 1951 entered into technical collaboration with UK based Chubb Safes Group, who were acknowledged as world-wide leaders in security business safeguarding wealth in all major banks and commercial establishments.?
Equity participation from Chubb Group in 1971 gave Steelage Industries Ltd. the green signal to make further forays into the Indian market. The partnership with Chubb Group also resulted in Steelage Industries Ltd. acquiring Minimax of India Ltd. ?Minimax? division, a highly reliable and trusted name in fire extinguishers under the brand name Minimax. |

Quality Policy / ProcessesGunnebo India has been awarded ISO 9001: 2008 certification by Bureau Veritas for all sales, system installation and service activities geographically across the Indian operations.
With a long term focus on substantially improving the quality of the Gunnebo India operations, Gunnebo India decided to implement an integrated QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety & Environment) management system and improve process quality by establishing a comprehensive process performance measurement system.
As a first step, through a focused approach and the collaborative efforts of the entire team; ISO 9001: 2008 certification was awarded by Bureau Veritas Certifications, for Gunnebo India head office at Thane (Mumbai) and all regional offices, under UKAS & NABCB Accreditations, on 04 December 2009.
The certification covers the comprehensive scope of ‘Sales, Installation and Service of Safes, Lockers, Strong Room Doors, Filing Cabinets, Fire Extinguishing Products and other Physical, Electronic Security & Safety Products and Solutions’, that means all activities undertaken by all Business Lines and support functions including Human Resources, Quality, Logistics & Purchasing of Gunnebo India.
“We strongly believe that implementation of the processes in line with ISO 9001: 2008 standard requirements will improve the overall effectiveness and efficiency of Gunnebo India operations, while continually enhancing the capability to address customer requirements and preferences” said KP. This ISO 9001 certification compliments the existing ISO 9001 certifications for the Halol and Ambattur manufacturing plants in India.
