The solid state electronic feedback circuit senses the output voltage, compares it with the desired pre-set value (usually 230 Volts) and directs the servo motor to change the position of the moving brush on the variac to a position whereby the output voltage becomes equal to the desired value. Since the correction is based on the feedback from the output, it ensures good regulation for both input voltage variation as well as for load variation.
