For the Governement of Kerala in three Medical Colleges
As part of our ongoing endeavors to provide the very best in high quality healthcare at affordable price, we have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Government of Kerala to set up Hindlabs MRI Scan centers at three Medical College Hospitals in Kerala - in Thrissur, Kottayam and Alappuzha under Public/Public Partnership. HLL will operate these Hindlabs Centres in a diagnostic outsourcing model, providing cost effective and quality diagnostic service to the patients.
The MOU was signed by Dr.Vishwas Mehta IAS, Health Secretary on behalf of Government of Kerala and Shri M.Ayyappan, Chairman & Managing Director, Hindustan Latex Limited in the presence of the Hon’ble Minister for Health & Family Welfare Smt. P.K.Sreemathi and senior officials of the Health Department and Hindustan Latex, at a function held at the Secretariat on 1st November 2008.
The 1.5 Tesla MRI Scanner and associated equipments being provided to these Medical Colleges will be maintained and operated by HLL’s centers, with trained manpower. The total outlay for the setting up of these Centers is expected to be approximately Rs.20 Crores.
HLL is presently operating a Hindlabs Diagnostic Centre in New Delhi and are planning to set up more such labs in other parts of India.

Its Pharma Product in South America
Hindustan Latex (HLL) the nation’s premier manufacturer of contraceptives and various healthcare products, has launched its pharma product - the non-steroidal, once-a-week, oral contraceptive pill in Peru in South America. HLL will also be extending the marketing of this pill and its other contraceptive range in several other countries in the region in the coming months.
This user friendly pill, a popular choice for women in our country, is being marketed in Peru under the brand name ‘Ivyfemme’, which in Spanish denotes ‘friendship flower’. The pill does not have the disadvantages that accompany steroidal pills, such as nausea and weight gain.
At a function held at the capital city Lima on 15th October 2008, HLL’s Chairman and Managing Director, Sri. M.Ayyappan handed over the first pack of ‘Ivyfemme’ to Sri Luis Castallo, Managing Director, Interamericas, the Distributors for this product in Peru, in the presence of Ms. Andrea Luna, brand ambassador Ivyfemme in this country.
The launch of ‘Ivyfemme’ will widen the basket of choice for the women in South America in the area of contraception and spacing child birth.
Centchroman, the drug used in Ivyfemme, is the world’s first non-steroidal oral contraceptive pill with proven success rate and reduced side effects. It is a product of over two decades of research at one of India’s top Research institutions under the Government of India - The Central Drug Research Institute at Lucknow in Utter Pradesh. HLL has a state of the art manufacturing facility for the bulk production of the Centchroman drug at its Plant at Kanagala near Belgaum in Karnataka.
This once-a-week pill marketed under the brand name of Saheli, with the famed Cine actress Sridevi as its brand ambassador in our country, has emerged as one of the most preferred choice for women here, since its launch in 1991.

Hindustan Latex an enterprise under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Government of India has been awarded the coveted Indira Gandhi National Rajbhasha Award, by the Department of Official Language, Union Ministry of Home Affairs, for its outstanding performance in the implementation of Official Language among the enterprises in the southern region of the country.
The Award was received by the Chairman and Managing Director of HLL, Sri M. Ayyappan from the Hon’ble President of India, Smt Pratibha Patil at a special function at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi on 14th September 2008.
HLL is receiving this national award for the fourth time.

Signs MOU for setting up a
Technology Business Incubation Centre
Hindustan Latex (HLL) a Mini Ratna enterprise under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Government of India and the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB), have signed a MOU for the setting up of a Technology Business Incubation Centre (TBIC) at the RGCB.
The MOU was signed by the Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Latex, Sri M. Ayyappan with the Director of RGCB, Dr. Radhakrishna Pillai at a special function at the Rajiv Gandhi Centre.
The objective of setting up this Technology Business Incubation Centre is to translate the available technologies that are remaining at the bench levels into novel health care products.
The first in the series of projects planned is to jointly develop rapid molecular diagnostics to address the nation’s needs for high end molecular diagnostic kits that are economical, and easy to use rapid point of care testing devices.
Initially the Centre will take up the diagnosis of diseases prevalent in Kerala, including Chikunguniya and Dengue.
The infrastructure for theTBIC will be provided by the RGCB, and the Centre will eventually take up projects from other academic centres of excellence, to develop affordable health care products for the nation’s masses.
