One of the mostly widely used grades in high carbon spring steel wires, these wires are made from unalloyed high carbon steel wire rods having fine pearlite structure resulting in the wires, in which Carbon % ranges from 0.65% to 0.75%, having high strength and durability.

 

High carbon spring steel wires in Grade II can be supplied in both phosphate and galvanized coating possessing properties for tension, compression or torsion springs which are subjected to medium-high static stress and rarely dynamic stress.

 

Applications include springs for automobiles, bedding/mattresses, military, electronics, industrial machinery, etc.

These high carbon spring steel wires are cold drawn wires made from unalloyed high carbon steel wire rods with Carbon percentage  ranging from 0.55% to 0.65%. Supply of such wires cam be galvanized or phosphate coated and possess properties for tension, compression or torsion springs which are subjected to low static stress.

 

Applications include magazine binding wires, hangers, staples, etc.   

 

In India, these wires are usually termed as high carbon spring steel wires Grade I/Grade 1. Its chemical composition is as follows-

Vastly used in automobile industry, high carbon spring steel wires Grade III are made from wire rods containing higher carbon percentage resulting in wire having combination of ductility, high strength and excellent durability to endure the high loading. Carbon % ranges from 0.75% to 0.90%.

 

These wires can be supplied in both phosphate and galvanized coating and are used mainly for compression, torsion and tension springs which are subjected to high static to medium high dynamic stresses.

 

Applications include springs for shock absorbers, clutch, tension, compression, etc in automobiles, springs for mattresses, wire ropes, brushes, tire cord etc.

These wires are popularly known as Music Wire and Piano Wire, made from wire rods having Carbon % ranging from 0.80% to 1.00%, thus offering excellent fatigue resistance in the wires.

 

Music Wires/Piano Wires are oil hardened high carbon spring steel wires vastly used for manufacturing small tension, torsion and compression springs which are subjected to high static to medium dynamic stresses as they have high tensile strength.
