Happenings / News / Press CoverageNew Delhi: Reliance Communications said it has bagged contracts to develop telecom infrastructure in Kerala, Mumbai and Maharashtra circles.
Company sources said the firm would build infrastructure for mGovernance, which help give 24x7 provide real time police information, updates on land records and civil services through voice, GPRS, Bluetooth, SMS and 3G technologies. RCOM will team with local value added services (VAS) partners to implement the projects and connect various government departments on the mobile data platform.
When contacted, a Reliance Communications spokesperson confirmed the development but declined to divulge the financials of the contracts. He said the company is working with local VAS business associates in Kerala, Mumbai and Maharastra circles to establish mGovernance infrastructure. According to market estimates, the annual revenue will be over Rs 900 crore from these mGovernance projects. The company is also in discussions for mGovernance infrastructure contracts for Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Karnataka, sources said.
Osiyan Communications has the government mandate to implement mGovernance services in these states and RCOM is in advanced stage of discussions with Osiyan for these contracts, sources said. In Mumbai and Maharashtra, the Dilip Wagh promoted-IIST Infotech is the official VAS partner of the government, while for Kerala, the role is played by MobeMe Wireless.
IIST Infotech CMD Dilip Wagh confirmed that his company is working with RCOM for the implementation of mGovernance mandate in Mumbai and Maharastra circles.
The services offered will be on chargeable and different price points will be defined for each of these services. A shortcode module will be used for information services and subscription services. For example, to get fishery price updates, a subscriber may use the shortcode and will be charged for every session. Similarly, there would be subscription services such as Krishi alerts, weather alerts, sea surface condition alerts etc, which will be offered on fixed monthly rental basis. The firm is also developing local applications, including group messaging to facilitate panchayats and or district-level bodies to disseminate information of local importance to rural people.
